i am an european and can’t understand some aspects of the american culture. please, tell me, why “the i just totally get rejected thread” is ok, while “i have not been yet rejected thread” is not?

maybe someone who was accepted into X college will feel ofended by “rejected” thread also? you know, feel of “i am not deserving that” or something.

public whining is ok, while public pride is not. it’s really strange.

kind of bigotry?

btw, congrats to acceptances!

IMO, if you never get rejected, maybe you didn’t reach high enough. Of course, the exceptions are if you got into a really top college and couldn’t have reached higher, or if you just loved only match schools. But I’m going to take the time to fill out the MIT app next year, becuase I love the place so much that the effort is worth the .1% chance an acceptance letter shows up next march.

Gee, why are people so mad about this? :/

Or maybe they just aren’t unrealistic prestige hunters. I knew that my chances at the tippy top schools were slim so I applied ED to a slightly less prestigious school and got in. The quality of education at these top schools is indistinguishable so why would I waste my time and stress out over a “name” school when I could go to one that is somewhat less well known? TBH everyones *****ing about how offensive the posts in this thread are but I find yours to be the only one that is out of line.

^^ chasing your dreams isnt always about prestige.

No but he shouldn’t be knocking people for being realistic.

stop attacking prestige whores, you rice admit

(jk kidding)

I’m not superstitious, so I’ll post

I’m not super arrogant either; I haven’t been rejected anywhere yet but I’m expecting to get nailed from the ivies on tuesday

I’m just posting this because I’m really surprised I haven’t been rejected. A few people told me I applied to far too many reach schools and I definitely agree. Now I regret not applying to even harder schools like Columbia or Harvard, even though I’d have like 98% chance of getting rejected.

Four more schools to go though: 1 definite admit, 3 reaches. I really want to know the results now.

Cornell, Swarthmore, Wesleyan, Johns Hopkins, Boston College, University of Rochester, Fordham, State Flagship University.

oooh, i haven’t either (: but it’s not like i’ve heard back from too many (just 2 of my non-safeties). i applied to a total of 8 schools + safety. and they are all in the top 10, help! :O

My current aspiration is to get a phd in math and be paid modestly to do research. MIT seems like the most likely environment to find lots of peers who have similar goals (and I’ve loved the place for years, back when I wanted to be an engineer and even before that when I was just “nerdy”).

I had problems during my first two years of high school, so my gpa is substandard. Test scores are above MIT’s average, but this isn’t worth much when you see the “97% were in the top 10% of their high school class” statistic (presumably the IMO winning first generation legacies). So, horror of horrors, I have a really big reach.

Accepted to: UR,UB Geneseo, Vassar ; Waitlisted at: Johns Hopkins ; Waiting on: Yale, Harvard, Dartmouth, and Cornell

i am lucky so far, anticipating rejections from all ivies

oh well, nice job all

R.P.I
Northeastern Honors
Cornell

…which makes me 7 for 7
all for the school of engineering. maybe i didnt strive for my full potential or something? should I have applied to harder schools?

Or maybe because it’s not March 31 yet…
