The Impact of Study Halls

Quick question. Do taking SHs hurt your chances for college admission into top tier schools. For example, I have or will have taken all the AP and Honors courses offered at my school, but my counselor encouraged me to take 2 study halls with my other 5 AP classes this last year. Will this hurt me?

I think that they would rather see that you’re taking ALL the hardest classes available to you.

However, 5 APs is already a ton of work. I wish my school had the “study hall” option.

Ya… I am taking a microecon course at my local college to kind of try to counteract any thoughts by admission officers that my schedule wasn’t rigorous enough. But hopefully thats enough…right?

Taking a study hall voluntarily is definately going to hurt you. By how much? I’m not sure.

Hmm…well this is definately something that worries me. However, in place of the study halls, I would’ve taken some electives that I wouldve found boring and almost a waste of time (Art, music theory, whatever). So, taking one college course of the summer should more than make up for this shouldn’t it. Additionally, I am taking no study halls next year, so hopefully it would look like I’m a slacker.
