What Colleges Think About A Study Hall

My school offers 8 classes a year, more than most, and I have maxed out on all AP's and Honors courses offered. There is really nothing worth my time anymore, so I've taken a study hall the past two years. I'm guessing colleges could care less if you have a study hall, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't think colleges care if you have a study hall or not.

We have mandatory study hall for all four years in high school - which leaves us with 7 periods in a day AND a mandatory religion class.

Technically, we only get 6 academic periods in a day, and most of us still ended fine - I don't think it makes a difference as long as you are maxing out on what the school offers.

At our school all but a couple people take a study hall, and many take two study halls. It equates to 7 classes at a time.

Kids need a break.

well during senior year, I had 1 study hall and 1 "independent study" out of 7 periods, and it didn't hurt me at all in admissions... although taking more AP classes (there were no more for me to take) would have helped out my GPA :)

At my school study hall is only for kids with ADD or ADHD. ONly a few kids are in it.

Well I took two study halls my junior and senior year, but as long as you compensate this with AP's and such colleges most definitely don't care.

Just make sure to maximize your opportunites in the context on what your school offers. I go to a tiny school and there have been two academic periods in my four years of high school where there are no classes for me to take, so I will end high school having had two study halls in four years. Colleges are looking at rigour, so make sure to meet the colleges' expectations of course load/ rigour.

My school doesn't offer study hall ..

I wish my school offered study hall :(
It would mean a lot less homework... or more time to listen to my ipod.

our study halls suck since you can't sleep, listen to music, use a computer, go to library, or even talk.

Gosh, middle school study hall was so awesome.

55 minutes every day of listening to music, chillin on CC, and best of all, racing across the desks ..

i ALMOST beat Jimmy one time :(

i was the fastest girl, though. well, rachel would have been the fastest girl, but she fell one time during 2nd quarter and hurt her ankle and then she quit.

so basically, here's the hierarchy of "personal bests" (timed on my ipod):

1) Jimmy 0:04:36
2) Me 0:04:59 (so close!!)
3) Tom 0:05:35
4) Pa 0:07:05
5) Danica 0:07:44
6) Alia 0:07:55
7) Jessi 0:08:54
8) Jared 0:09:34

and the last-week-of-school tourney outcome:

Jared v. Jimmy = Jimmy

Pa v. Danica = Danica

Jimmy v. Danica = Jimmy

Jessi v. Me = Me

Tom v. Alia = Tom

**Me v. Tom = Tom/b

Tom v. Jimmy = JIMMY!

those were the days :(

haha 10char
