Will having the Gold Congressional Award Medal help my application? Will the admissions office even know what it is?
Its the United States Congress award for youth. It requires 400 hours of community service, 200 hours of personal development, 200 hours of physical fitness, and 4 consecutive nights of exploration.
I got the Congressional Award because I wanted to volunteer and set goals for myself, but Im just wondering if you think it will have any impact on my application.
Thanks!

I think that Admission Reps are pretty well versed in all the “accomplishments” that are attainable. They should know what it is (I do). And congratulations - takes a lot of time to get to that point.

Thanks for your help!

It’s not all about hours though. The award itself is only a reflection of how much time you’ve spent volunteering. That in itself does not illuminate your character or your passions.

One person may have spent 400 hours scooping soup at a soup kitchen. The same amount of time could have been invested to design, organize, and execute a citywide fundraiser - not that any single activity is more valuable than another.

Just a thought.
