Volunteering Awards?

How much weight is the volunteering President's Award given? At my school it's 100 hrs in a school year for bronze, 175 for silver, and 250+ for gold? Does it even matter? If it does, does it matter what level? Anddddd does volunteering even matter?
Thanks all

bumppppppppp

volunteering matters because you help other people.

I don’t really know much about the award
but 250 hours really isn’t that much, so can’t be that much weight.

My school doesn’t have such an award but it will look great on an app. Just tell them exactly how many hours you participated. It’s also good because since your school is giving out the award it’ll be more legit to colleges.

The Presidential Community Service is a big deal and not as common as you think. Especially the gold and it is difficult to get as the hours are all done in one year. D got this award in Girl Scouts. Make sure you put that on your app if you haven’t applied to college yet. That is an award that could make a difference!

haha it sounds quite credible. definitely wouldn’t hurt to put it down!

bumppppppppppp

would it also be impressive for schools like HYPSM? What about silver?

I don’t think colleges give much weight to awards that are soley dependent upon a factor which the college is already considering.

As long as you actually enjoy volunteering, have volunteered for awhile, and show your passion, it doesn’t matter.
I got this Congressional volunteer award, but I doubt it would look impressive for hypsm.

I love volunteering, but there’s no way to show passion besides the essay. However, I have things more dear to me that I wanted to write my essays about. Can the president’s award (2 years so far, 2 times silver; will be 3 by the time i apply) still help?

It wont help get you into a school that your grades/scores dont match. Just helps explain who you are and that you use your time productively. May help if the school has merit awards for leadership (ie: mid-lower range selective school).
