My cousin oversaw my application and saw what my email address was. it's my nickname in spanish, i guess the equivalent of "shorty_pumpcake@hotmail.com" or w/e. he was like, "dude change your email.. what the ef is that! the college is gonna look at your application, think you don't take this seriously and reject you!" (in spanish). i was like, "w/e no they wont'.. it's my email and i don't need to change it."

but now i'm thinking he might be right... what do y'all think??

sorry this is so sloppy, he's rushing me cuz we're going to the movies and we're gonna miss the metro. lol

Hopefully the readers of your file studied French instead of Spanish! LOL

I wouldn’t worry about it too much especially since it wasn’t offensive or had sexual connotations. Plus, there’s nothing you can do now. However, I’d highly recommend you change it henceforth. Do you expect to be using the same email next summer as you’re applying to real jobs and internships? How about at graduation time? How “cute” will your email look to employers.

Time to put some things behind you, I would think…

Having an unprofessional email address will look your application look unprofessional. Now, from my experience and what I’ve been told, that’s not a major issue for college applications. But realize that when you’re applying for a job or internship, an unprofessional email address may well have a serious effect.

Personally I think having a “personality” email isn’t a big deal for colleges. They are trying to understand you, and I think, to an extent, email address brings character. However, having “<a href="mailto:s3xybabystar444@gmail.com”>s3xybabystar444@gmail.com" is a different story. I do agree with veterans like Northstarmom who’ve had much more experience that it’s time to get professional for things later in life.

I think most names are okay. My email is the sn here. Not exactly professional, but not inappropriate. I had planned to get a new email address, but I forgot. I’ve been accepted to every university to which I applied, and to some internships, so it didn’t make a difference to them.
If they don’t recognize the Spanish, it’ll be fine. Here’s hoping.

I used my email which was like ‘mynamejrocket’ and I got accepted to 4 out of 5(still waiting UNC).

Somehow, I would hope that unless your email is something sexually inappropiate, discriminating, or so forth that admission officers and people in general would not be so petty as to weigh that in as a factor…

Perhaps not weigh it in as a factor but it does leave a bad impression. When you’re messing with adcoms you don’t want to give them ANY reason to have a bad impression of you.

my email address has the word “negro” in it… it’s not the derogatory term, though. it’s what my family calls me in spanish! it’s surrounded by two other spanish words. i hope the adcoms see it in context, or else they’ll think i’m some sort of racist :(

can i PM anyone with my email address and have them tell me what they think? please :(

My email is the same as my username here. I wrote my common app essay about it and about being confused in life.

I’m sorry about that but I hope they don’t notice. They might not even look at it too closely because they’re so interested in reading your essay and don’t care about your email address.

Just to clarify, that was a joke. I was poking a bit of fun since a lot of ccers seem way too stressed out and care way too much about trivial things that shouldn’t make any meaningful impact.
