The importance of Official VS. unofficial clubs

At my school last year we competed in a competition and won an award, this victory allowed us to become an official club, however, this has created many problems. I was wondering if colleges care if the club is official or is an unofficial club fine.

they don’t . Both are equally unimportant. It’s one line on the application that is quickly read and the reader goes elsewhere. Sorry to burst your bubble. This is a common myth held by HS students --they tend to over estimate the importance of ECs. Most colleges care little to nothing about ECs.

So being an official club makes little difference?

I’d agree with the first poster.

On your college apps whether a club is “official” or not will be pretty hard for an adcom to determine. It’s not something you really list when discussing the club/what you do in it. The impact either will have on an application is generally slight.
