My school has a club with 150+ people in it, and everyone is given a leadership position upon joining. So, clearly, it's a fake club. But it does have occasional meetings, a legitimate teacher looking over it, and has been approved by the school and is listed on the official list of clubs.

So my question to you is this: if everyone in the club were to include it on their application, would admissions officers notice that 100+ kids from my school have leadership positions in that club (and then subsequently either dismiss the club or dismiss the idea of taking someone who is being somewhat dishonest)? Of course, I doubt it would help anyway seeing as nothing meaningful really goes on, but I have a feeling that people will inevitably put it on their application just for the sake of having an additional officer position.

1) most colleges don’t care one lick about ECs
2) the ones that do, smell these shill officer positions rather easily.
3) the joke is on the millions of nervous HS students who feel compelled to cram their resumes with such obvious fluff, not the colleges

Can you give an example of an activity within that you had a major hand in? If not, leave it out and focus on your more interesting and character building ECs. Quality not quantity.

If you got a title and responsibilities, fine, you got it, put it down, if you wish. But just having that is not what impresses adcoms. What you actually did can matter more. The whole app has to show the right things about your energy and judgment.

I agree with lookingforward and highland_poppy. Also keep in mind that it’s unlikely 100 kids from your high school will all be applying to the same college. Best of luck :)
