The Indian class of 2021 Results Thread! [EA/ED/RD]

@AstralWanderer congrats. I thought Cornell would not accept any Indians after the Early Decision cycle. You must have had great stats. How much aid?
@mundanewarrior I required aid. A lot of it. And when I say better than IITs and BITS I also mean in terms of value for money. And you can’t deny that IIT and BITS is a well-enough recognised name for grad schools.
Also, NUS does not require recommendations.
PS - Everybody gets 95% in boards if they haven’t been preparing for the JEE. What else do you do in the last two months of the school year except study for the boards?

@Principle
IITs, sure. BITS does not even come close. But it’s less about the college itself and more about the location. Do you really want to go to college in a third world country where 97% of the engineering graduates are unemployable because they spent four years doing everything but what is expected?

Not “everybody”. And let’s just say some people have lives.

I personally think NUS is stupid. And rankings will not change that. They fill their classes with overachievers, as opposed to creative thinkers. This automatically ensures that Singapore will never be a match for US. You may have a different opinion and that’s okay; we all look for different things in a college.

@Principle Wow! I had no idea. Where did you hear that?
I got 60k annually at Colgate and my Cornell package is yet to come.

BTW where did you get accepted?

@mundanewarrior Congrats on your acceptance!

@AstralWanderer Thanks and likewise. :slight_smile:

@AstralWanderer and @mundanewarrior Congrats! Add your name to the existing list.

@AstralWanderer Yep professional help could be useful in the essay sort of sense, although I was sort of doubtful PseoduGod would want that seeing how they were seriously considering publishing a novel - in addition, they can’t afford to it.

@Principle

Aah yes I can relate to that :slight_smile: Even though I’m really happy with the universities I’ve gotten into, I’m still applying to a lot of universities in India and may end up going to IIITH.

I didn’t know much about the college navigation maze either. Truth be told, when I first decided I would apply, I had no idea where to start (to such an extent I didn’t even know something like CommonApp existed).

I seeked professional help (in September, last year) only because I hadn’t the faintest idea where to begin. However, all they did was introduce me to CommonApp. I did pretty much everything else by myself - found out how to apply on CommonApp, which exams to take, how to apply through other portals, write essays - even came to know about Early Action and all by myself just scouring the web or asking friends.
The only other thing they did after that was just have a look at my essays - they didn’t really suggest any changes to it. They also did help me finalize my list of universities.

I know people who have used professional help and people who haven’t. The major difference I’ve found between them is the number of safety universities they applied to - people who didn’t use professional help applied to a lot of extremely competitive universities.

Some people find professional help necessary while some don’t find it all that useful - I think it varies with the person. In PseudoGod’s case, I would recommend using professional help for finalizing the list of universities and considering more safeties and for help with essays - otherwise since it’s not completely affordable, leave it off.

@mundanewarrior

I couldn’t agree more! XD
I don’t have a life - I just sort of went into an off mode and did nothing. Choosing between studying and doing nothing is a no brainer for me.

Hi guys, I’m currently in the 10th grade and wanted a bit of advice from you all- I have been accepted into UWC Mahindra College, but is it beneficial to attend it? I’m not sure if the UWC tag does store as much value as is advertised. It’s pointless asking the counselor at my current school because every time I do, she attempts to sell it.

@Principle - almost forgot to ask, which university did you get accepted to? Are you considering going there at all whethet or not you get IIT/BITS?

@cconfusedd UWC is known worldwide and it helps cultivate your passion in an amiable environment. You can’t go wrong with it. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity! If you are still not convinced, look up the UC Davis Scholarship. It will really give you an edge over others.

@InfiniteLibrary It really amuses me how people think it’s a child’s play to publish a novel at such a young age.
Why would you go to IIIT or even IIT if you got accepted to universities like Carnegie?!

@cconfusedd it’s amazing you got there!
@AstralWanderer is it the Shelby Davis scholarship?
Well, financial and a lot of other reasons.

Sorry I get the name confused sometimes lol

@cconfusedd What AstralWanderer said. There are many, many colleges in the USA or even the UK where you have UWC scholarships. And if you want to go outside, then there’s not a much better school than UWC to go to.

As for which university I got into, I don’t want to reveal that for the sake of my privacy (yes, I realise this may make me seem stuck-up. But still. Privacy.) It’s a liberal arts college.

@InfiniteLibrary If I can get into IITB/IITD in my preferred branch, I will probably have to think(because of the cost factor). I have received sufficient financial aid, but still, even one year will cost more than all four years of IIT combined.

Wow, you guys are really amazing. You are still taking the stress for IIT’S after getting admitted to such awesome universities.
As for me, I quit the day I got into Cornell Lol
@Principle @InfiniteLibrary

@Principle @AstralWanderer Yea, cost is a factor for me too. I would like to go to Carnegie, but my parents aren’t too keen on it - they aren’t sure if it’s worth that much more - like principle said, the expense of 1 year there is still more than 4 years in India. If I do go to India, it would most likely be to IIITH, but if I go to the US (which I’m more likely to go), then I would probably choose UIUC over Carnegie as it’s cheaper.

@AstralWanderer The fact that you got into Cornell is amazing enough too! :slight_smile:

@InfiniteLibrary Maybe you should have thought about the cost before applying. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You mean you quit today (assuming you applied RD, and Ivy Day was today)?

@mundanewarrior Haha yeah. I was initially planning to give mains but now, I won’t.

@mundanewarrior I was always really intent on applying to Carnegie Mellon, so I applied - I thought I would convince my parents later.

Anyhow there is still a small chance I may go there, although it’s very miniscule. I thought the same thing about whether I would get accepted too - I never thought I would get in, in the first place. But that happened, so I hope this does too! :slight_smile:
