The Indian class of 2021 Results Thread! [EA/ED/RD]

Thank you for the advice! I guess I’ll commit to UWC then

@AstralWanderer Does that mean you didn’t have safeties? Indian colleges were your safeties?

@InfiniteLibrary Getting accepted into a good college in US is not so difficult if you don’t ask for financial aid. CMU does not have financial aid; if they did and you had applied for it, you may not have been accepted. But this acceptance chance is based on non-financial matters. But the probability of you attending CMU is based on availability of money. LOTS of money. Amount so huge you can’t even take a loan.

I’d like to quote myself:

You did not apply to any financial safeties, but if you can afford UIUC with some pain, then pick that over Indian colleges any day. Getting into IIIT-H is very difficult, especially if you haven’t been preparing well for this stupid JEE thing. Just look at the cutoffs.

A couple more Indian universities to consider (if you go down that path):
[ul]
[li]Ashoka University: Highly recommended over any Indian engineering college other than IITs, IIITs and maybe Manipal. This is the Indian equivalent of a selective liberal arts American college. The admission process is holistic and not based on cutoffs. And it’s need blind![/li][li]Manipal University: One of the few decent engineering colleges in India. Not perfect tho.[/li][li]Christ University: Not really recommended but still better than most Indian engineering colleges. Go there for the experience and network, rather than for the quality of teaching. You will need to put in a lot of extra work yourself if you want to stand out.[/li]
[/ul]
There are others such as PEC-Chandigarh, but they are again not easy to get into (same as IIIT-H).

@mundanewarrior Yeah, pretty much that.

@AstralWanderer That would have been tragic if you hadn’t gotten into Cornell, lol

@Principle BTW I am curious how you heard that Cornell stopped accepting Indians after ED?

@AstralWanderer There’s a lot of hearsay. I doubt any reputed college would discriminate to that extent.

@mundanewarrior Well then I would have either gone to Fordham ( accepted EA) or prepared for the jee and taken a gap year in the worst case scenario lol

Fordham is expensive af. Would you have been able to afford it?

Anybody got into HYPSM yet??

Just got my financial aid package from Cornell! $70000 P.a in aid. Will just have to pay 3 lakh p.a including everything. Definitely going to Cornell now! Lol

@AstralWanderer Congratulations!!! What is your intended major, btw?

@mundanewarrior Thanks for the info!

Haha it sure did. Probably Computer Science.

I have a question. I have seen people writing accepted to CAS as a Maths major but isn’t major declared in second year?

@InfiniteLibrary I hope you actually found it useful. Let me know where you end up.

@AstralWanderer That depends on the university. Many require you to declare your major and you’re accepted accordingly.

I was accepted into the College of Engineering at UAlabama because I declared CS as my major.

Some universities are very strict about this. My friend was accepted at Loyola Chicago but did not declare her major. Now she cannot get her desired major (Nursing) because there are no spots left. They said Nursing and Engineering are very competitive and rigorous and therefore can only be started as a freshman. The other majors are to be declared by the end of sophomore year.

@mundanewarrior I found it very useful!

Definitely will let you know

@mundanewarrior Someone who got accepted to Cornell posted that. So does Cornell also follows that? It’s website stated otherwise.

@AstralWanderer I doubt they have such stupid rules. The Ivies are supposed to offer you all the freedom you need.

Your best bet would be to email them.
