The Indian class of 2021 Results Thread! [EA/ED/RD]

Any one here can tell when to start the visa process… as to what is the earliest possible time we can start the process. And if any one is waiting here for the WL decisions also. If so then till what time we can wait for visa process safely.

@USUG21 You can apply for a visa 120 days before the date that your class starts. If you’re on a WL, it depends on the university. From what I know, you have either 7 days or 15 days (after you receive a decision) to accept the offer from the university. I guess it usually takes 10-15 days to get the visa process completed.

@tangerinedreams9 thanx. How many days it takes to get i20 from a university.

@USUG21 I got mine in 10 days after I paid my deposit but I had already submitted all the financial documents at the time of applying.

@tangerinedreams9 from where we wil find what are the financial documents required to be sent to college to get i20.

Anyone going to CMU?

@HB1999
I believe @IamINTP is

@USUG21 you can find it on the college’s website or you can email them and ask

Thnx…
Any one here going to CMU mech engnring

@HB1999 I am

@USUG21 Well, for ECE. But, same school, right?

@mundanewarrior @principle @InfiniteLibrary Thank you Guys for helping out. This really means a lot. You guys are doing a commendable job helping out others. May Allah bless you all with peace and happiness.
I’d been really sick for past few days and couldn’t come up here. I’ve tweaked my final list of things that I plan to do this year:

  1. Earn a black belt and get selected for the national tournament. (3 months approx.)
  2. 4 AP exams. (may)
  3. SAT subject Tests. (June)
  4. SAT (Oct.)
  5. Will be teaching kids in a place nearby and get them enrolled in a school.
  6. I have dropped the idea of writing a novel, instead I’ll be blogging or I might work as a freelance writer.
  7. Learn as much as violin I can.

@mundanewarrior I highly agree with what you said about concentrating on enhancing my EC’s, but that’s as much as I can manage. Do you think all of the above mentioned things that I plan to do will enhance my app.?

Again, thank you for guiding me in the right direction, I’ll surely be applying to CALTECH through EA1 and to the other safe colleges the way you mentioned.
You guys seem to know a lot about the app. process. Could I in someway contact you? (Email Address?)

If everything goes out well I’ll get to my dream college soon. I’ll be highly indebted to you guys, Thank you for helping out.

@PseudoGod
You are not going to apply EA1 to Caltech because Caltech does not offer financial aid to international applicants who apply Early Action.
Consider going through a list of other schools you feel are great. Apply to a school with Early Decision, preferably.
Schools not to apply to EA - Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT (because of low chances. Not the Caltech reason)
Schools to apply to - Any one with ED and history of providing aid to internationals.

@PseudoGod

Hope you’re feeling better now :slight_smile:

I think your final list of ECs is fine (who can tell for sure though?). I like the idea of blogging or freelance writer more than writing a book.
You have just started to learn the violin right? If possible, instead of focussing on that, try to gather some ECs more related to your major.

Good luck!

How many in this forum got into caltech and going

@PseudoGod

You can do both if you don’t take the SAT again.

Hey guys,

I don’t think I’ll be able to attend any university I’ve gotten into in the US - where I live (not in India), there’s bad economic situation going on and my parents are against taking loans.

If nobody minds, could you guys just answer a few questions? How do you plan on funding your studies (other than financial aid)? What are your parent’s occupations? Any tips you could give me to cut the cost of college?

Thanks :frowning:

So sorry to hear that @InfiniteLibrary.
I will be attending a study abroad program in France (AUP) before going back to USC. And if I get the grades I have been getting all along on my final exams, then I will be on a 50- 75% scholarship in France. And because of all the credits I have been accumulating, HOPEFULLY, I can graduate sooner.
IMO, you could study in a school in Europe maybe on a scholarship, and then transfer to any school in the US after 1 or 2 years. That gives you a financial advantage, great opportunities, a lot more connections, a great education and that ‘global outlook’ haha.

@AnArcticMonkey Ohh ok thanks.
Any info you could give me about applying to Europe?

@InfiniteLibrary the concept is new to me too. The ones USC directed us to were the American University of Paris, Franklin University of Switzerland, John Cabot University in Rome, Italy and Richmond, London.
Depending on your major look up places and schools you might be interested in I guess. Message me if I can be of any help.

@InfiniteLibrary that is unfortunate if you have to give up your CMU dreams! You may want to check out if you can get sponsorship from external independent sources to fund your CMU program …( random examples below…you could google for more )

if you are looking to apply elsewhere you may want to check out University of Melbourne…their comp science program seems to be rated well in QS world rankings and it appears from their web site that they accept applications in april/may for enrollment during second semester and it also appears they give aid and scholarships to international applicants…
Good luck and hope you get into a program /college of your choice and make the best of it !!
