depends...i applied to 25 and plan to attend the uni. which was the 25th that i heard back from. if i were to do it all over again, i'd still apply to 25

my photo :p j/k i think it was consistency of depicting myself. my essays, ecs, etc. reinforced what my teachers wrote in the recos

u mean Princeton was the 25th and the only one u heard from? or did u hear from all 25? because if you have the "insert suitable word here" to get into all 25 colleges, why apply to 25?

thanks for the answers and keep them coming...and like i said, the more specific the better ;)

why are u so angry?????

oh...nothing...

i heard from all 25 but coz my mail was lost in the mail, i didnt hear from pton until i had heard from every other college. My tally was like 12/25 or something.

as far as your question about why 25, rather than retyping the whole thing, i m pasting an extract from a chapter that i wrote for the book that all of us  were going to write on college app (ritz, astrix - u read this???)

The good things

a. Applying to 25 schools: as ridiculous as it sounds, it was the best thing I ever did. I just pulled out an old sheet of paper with a list of 10 schools that I was planning to apply to and this is what it looked like.

3 safeties (UIUC, NYU, UNC) 4 matches (Chicago, Georgetown, UMich, GeorgiaTech) and 3 reaches (MIT, Caltech, Brown)

If I were to apply to only 10 schools, I would have not applied to Princeton or Duke and might have ended up paying $190k (dont know how, but would have had to figure out a way or not go to the US at all) for my education at Chicago or UMich. Yes, the whole application process was tedious and I spent over $2000 on applications alone, but it is still a whole lot better than paying $190k or going to a second tier school (when I can go to the top tier school)

Also, from what I have noticed, very few international students get into more than 1 ivy league so by not applying to more schools, one might be missing out on the one that would have accepted him/her.
[/quote]

accepted to all 25? tht's ubercool.
u probably underestimated and put down matches as your reaches. :D.
there's no way my coll counselor will allow me to apply to 25! thanks for the suggestion though. i don't think i will be applying to ivies though. least of all HYPS. my stats are not very good. i'll be applying to about 12 colleges i guess or probably 15. :(

no, no, no...didnt get into 25...got into something like 12 (dont even remember anymore)

also all my reaches WERE reaches...ne1 on this board can attest to it.

for safeties/matches/reaches i had selected based on the probability of

safety = >66% probability of getting accepted
matches = >33% probability of getting accepted
reaches = <5% probabilty of getting accepted

end result was to have enough probabilty to get into atleast 3 schools. (yeah, i like to play poker - hence the probabilistic viewpoint :D)
