Hey you can only talk in English on this board...

rashi

Your HS record is impressive.

rashi

Are you applying to Columbia College or Columbia SEAS?

^
^ HS record including EC's n all are impressive but then my SAT's suck!!
N yeah class rank is more important than %.. Even my school doesn't rank.. But my sweet ass princi wrote top5% of 943 students for me.. And I think that's good enuf..!?!

N Columbia SEAS for me..

Dude that's more than good enough!

rashi

The moral of the story--- Adcoms do know about various schools and boards in India and their course content. If your school is non-existent, they do try to find out about yours, and if not, SAT scores are always there.
Correct to some extent. But they DONT try and find about your school. You think they have that amount of time? No. They ask your school to tell something about themselves on the transcript if they want to.

I doubt people from 'ruddy government schools' apply to the US.
Another misconception. There LOADS of brilliant chaps in those schools. And they apply. I goto United States Educational Foundation and the no. of students who go from Govt. schools is quite significant.

Mediocre term is relative. I scored 87% in 11th and only 84% in Pre-boards.. Would you say I am a mediocre student?? 87% or 84% might be mediocre in other schools but I was a scholar at my school.
Now if an applicant from a completely non-existent school comes with 93%, I don't think the adcoms would be less impressed with my scores...they know how competitive and tough my school is.
Issac may have scored a 95% on that pre-board. Whats my point? Indeed its relative. That is why SATs are important. To provide a platform to benchmark.
Now if you havent heard of a school it doesnt mean it isnt good. Ever heard of Pailan School? Calcutta Intl School? Calcutta Intl School offers IB. And trust me IB is kickass tough.

DPS is the best school in India and most adcoms know about it.
It depends which DPS we are talking about here. I have studied at RK Puram and also at Rajkot. Rajkot was kinda lame. So you cant compare.

Great record there, Rashi. But I dont think class IX matters. Brown doesnt even ask for your class IX scores :p

Varies from College to College, though.

^ you were in RK Puram...?? When?

long time ago. Then I went back again for the LISTEN Conference.

I've been moving all my life. Studied at 10 Different schools :)

Phew, just finished with theoretical papers, now for practicals..:)..

True dat true dat.

Hey issac...are you gonna be applying for a transfer?

I Hope so....But it's gonna be really toughie..let's see...

Hmmm. You gotta apply in March, right?

Yeah, around that...

OK guys, a little question for you.

I was just looking at my 9th grade report card yesterday....and most of my marks are in the late 70s/early 80s (with a couple of 60s scattered in between)...BUT my marks are all like 15-20 marks higher than the class average, and I was ranked in the top 10% last year (it's top 5% now). So...will those 70s pose a problem?

OK I pulled out the report card again and here are the 'situations':

1st Term:

SUBJECT MY AVG CLASS AVG
English language 63 54
English literature 73 48
Physics 76 51
Environmental edu. 73 59
Hindi 75 54

2nd Term:

SUBJECT MY AVG CLASS AVG
English literature 70 50
History 77 59
Hindi 69 50

3rd Term:

SUBJECT MY AVG CLASS AVG
English language 72 60
English literature 66 54
Physics 75 55
Chemistry 78 50
Biology 78 68
History 75 67
Geography 78 56
Environmental edu. 79 60
Hindi 75 60

Yeah, so this is what I'm a bit worried about. Could you guys please put me a bit more at ease?

Eeks my average for the year was 79.

And the class' average for the year was 59. Yeow.
