The Indian Thread (TiT) # 16

<p>@gouchicago: Aing, I thought you were already in uni ..thought you were a recruited athlete :S must've confused you with someone else.</p>

<p>^ i thought the same too.</p>

<p>gouchicago- my best friend got waitlisted at uchicago(she was happy that she didn't get rejected).</p>

<p>^ Yup, I was a recruited athlete; which means that I would've been on the team if I was accepted. Too bad it didn't happen. Well, that's what you get when you expect ~$40,000 in FA in a need aware school.</p>

<p>By the way,</p>

<p>Need aware = The college is aware of your need, but they don't want to meet it.</p>

<p>Recruited means you are IN with AID.</p>

<p>Yeah, I thought recruited meant you were in too and that they would give you whatever you wanted :S</p>

<p>^ That is what happens. I don't know what went wrong with him. Maybe he wasn't really recruited?</p>

<p>^ I was recruited, but I also applied for a lot of aid. My coach did tell me that he had supported my application, but UChicago takes only about 15 Internationals who apply for aid.</p>

<p>Random fact: Cornell takes in 8 internationals who apply for aid</p>

<p>^ That's the case at all top need aware schools in the US; you'd be lucky to get in with aid.</p>

Facts to back that up? I had heard they took around 25-30 each year. SOmeone on the UChicago forums told me that.</p>

<p>@gouchicago: Which is exactly why I'm so grateful for how blessed I am</p>

<p>Yer a lucky lass :p</p>

<p>I know that, and now that I know exactly how difficult it is for aid-seekers, I'm especially thankful.</p>

<p>Here's a snippet from UChicago's international FAQ (<a href="https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/level3.asp?id=350#8):%5B/url%5D"&gt;https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/level3.asp?id=350#8):&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p>

What kind of financial aid is available for international applicants and how can I apply for it?
Unfortunately, the University of Chicago is unable to admit and support most of its international applicants requesting financial aid. However, we do try to fund as many students as we can. This past year we were able to offer financial aid awards ranging from $9,000 to $49,000 per year to 16 of the most highly qualified international applicants who sought partial or full support. Be aware that competition for this funding is always very intense; about 1,200 international applicants applied for admission last year (234 were admitted). The total amount that we offered to admitted internationals was about $660,000. If a student indicates on the Application for Admission that he or she intends to request financial aid, we send that student an International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA). He or she must return that form and Part 4 of our application. No other forms are needed. Financial aid award notifications are sent with letters offering admission. Be aware that the admissions process for international applicants is not “need-blind”; meaning that the admissions committee considers whether or not a student requires aid when making admissions decisions. We are unable to admit students that we cannot fund. Therefore, we recommend that international applicants apply for aid only if they do not have the resources to fund their education.

<p>Oh great. I killed the thread. Sigh...</p>

<p>Or...maybe not.</p>

<p>Holy ****. UChicago accepts 218 internationals who don't seek aid? What's the acceptance rate like for internationals not seeking aid?</p>

<p>19.5% as of last year; don't know about this year though.</p>

<p>I missed that, gouchicago. Sucks man. What other colleges are you expecting decisions from?</p>
