The Indian Thread (TiT) # 17

Umm, it was in the paper a couple of days ago - they want to have the same board for everyone.

OK the article in the paper here definitely didn’t talk about a uniform board, I just re-read it :S

I saw the show too…all the girls were squeaking saying they were happy the exams were scrapped because they couldn’t participate in extracurricular activities!:p

I’d personally want the 10th Boards. If people are scared to face the 10th boards, how would they directly face the 12th Boards? That would mean even more stress. Its good as it is now.Kapil Sibal trying to get in the front page of the news:p

But,I would like to see a uniform board. We have like a bajillion number of boards today which makes the college admission process harder.Uniformity would remove the differences between 2 students from different boards.

Come on, extracurriculars are just as important as academics.

And 10th + 12th boards = double stress. How is that better?

I personally feel the 12th Boards gives you an opportunity to change your ways if you screwd up in 10th.The 10th Boards makes you realize that you need to buck up.

If we had just the 12th Boards, people would start viewing the exams in the manner how they view the JEE.One exam, one life!End of the World!:)

This is always gonna remain controversial…

Indeed it is…

It’s not really double stress. One doesn’t NEED to stress over ICSEs since they don’t really have any impact on your life after. It’s a preparation for what you actually need to stress (at least a little bit) about…might actually reduce the stress you feel for ISCs, in fact, because it’s not the first time you’re taking an exam like that and you’re not doing something COMPLETELY unknown.

But a lot of people get uber-stressed out over ICSE. At least here…

I don’t like the fact that one exam(which you can take only once a year,BTW) can decide someone’s entire life. I believe all the marks you get from 9-12 should be evaluated. That we truly know who the performers are. The people who have been shining throughout their lives and not just for one day in one exam.

Is it possible to apply SCEA as well as normal EA?

^No posible!

I don’t believe in numbers. I don’t like the fact that exams(which you can take now and then,BTW) can decide someone’s entire life. It’s like using 3 dimensions(out of 11(or 12???)) to define an object. ;)

Holistic approach. That’s what it’s about.

Hot Noon in Malabar, anyone?

Someone on the show actually mooted the idea of having a SAT-like exam…that would be cool:)

What’s the use? There’ll be just as much pressure.

You can’t mug up for the SAT…while you can for the Boards…I guess I’m going off-topic just like on my essays…

I was just talking in the abstract.

No but you can be drilled enough to become very familiar with patterns…

^But,that’s better than rote learning,right?

Marginally. But it still isn’t ideal. And knowing Indians, we’ll find a way to game this system as well ;)

Oh,yeah…thats totally true though…I was discussing that scenario in school with friends today…and it went like this: students starting to mug up the dictionary, carrying 3 fat books to school(BB,PR and Barrons),working on 10 papers a day,one guy saying “yay,I got 400 marks more than you”,opening of a new coaching centre called FSAT(Forum for SAT)–think FIITJEE:p
