The infamous countdown to I-Day

Wait! So you’re not going to hit us with pvc pipes and soap inside socks?! Aw man, I was sooo looking forward to that too! Shucks!

Hahaha :D

Before any candidates get the wrong impression, Mateus and I were referring to Prep school BMT, not BCT. I think we are still on for PVC and blanket parties. ^_^

So, is it better to bring a backpack filled with your stuff to I-Day, or a small luggage bag? Because you have to carry everything in your left hand, right?

haha, of course priors and preppies (or both) find BCT to be easier…because it’s their second or third time doing it! lol

whatever is easiest to carry in your left hand, and make sure you only bring what is essential. extra stuff is un-needed and makes it a hastle

yep, and there’s always the chance that your bag goes missing. happened to a few of my squadmates… bring the BARE essentials. only what you ABSOLUTELY need

Plus, if you struggle because you decided to bring luggage, the cadre will single you out. It adds more stress because people are yelling at you and you have to carry around a heavy bit of luggage. It’ll suck big time for you if your cadre decided not to stop at your room first to drop off your bags and instead you go through the first half of the inprocessing “line” with it.

This is very true. Take the least amout of stuff you can…only what you need. Everything else can wait until Parents weekend.

(“So, is it better to bring a backpack filled with your stuff to I-Day, or a small luggage bag? Because you have to carry everything in your left hand, right?”)

A backpack is awkward to carry in your left hand - just ask the newly recognized 4-degrees who had to do it for 9 months!

Bring a small, lightweight duffel bag with a sturdy carrying handle that has a good grip on it (won’t slip out of sweaty hands, etc.).

Other than the “necessaries” that they tell you in the appointee packet, what else would be good to bring? Or ask parents for as a “graduation gift”?

83 days…

i think everything they tell you in the packet is sufficient.

as for graduation gift, i loooooove my external monitor i bought myself
i didn’t think i’d use it that much, but i went ahead and got one anyway, and it is amazing. you can write papers and do homework so much more easily.

digital camera, watch etc. are also good. do a forum search for more ideas.

I second the monitor and watch, also, to bring to basic, if you are religious at all, bring your bible, you will probably want it at some point (I know I did)

External monitors are only allowed after Parent’s Weekend, along with printers (and signing out, sorry guys). Other stuff you’ll get after basic. Bring a digital camera to commemorate the first time you go up to Eagle’s Peak :)

well you can’t have it ‘til the end of september, but it’s still a good grad gift. and if you already have it, you don’t have to go shopping for it over parents’ weekend :)

78:07:46.45…

If your parents come on Acceptance Day, can they bring stuff to you?

yes. that’s what my mom did. she brought out a box of stuff i had set up before basic. then over parent’s weekend i went out and bought the monitor and other stuff i wanted

yep! we weren’t sure if my dad could come out (mom couldn’t), so i packed up the stuff i really wanted (i’m a girl, so makeup, contacts, earrings, pictures, my ti-89, etc.) in a priority mail box. my dad came though, and brought the box.

i highly recommending putting something like that together for yourself so you have everything you want. you can write your parents with things to add, but at least have the basics ready to go.

Random: I would suggest going to Walmart and finding a battery alarm clock…in Vandy, the power goes out a lot, so if you use electricity it won’t work in the morning! also if you are on the top bunk, you can put in either on top of the valet or desk so you have access to it. I know the walmart here ran out of alarm clocks after parents weekend, so you might want to get that ahead of time

haha yeah; i stuck mine on a desk by my head.

i did what missmuff did: set up a box for my parents to send after acceptance day with my stuff… camera, boxers, sox, shoes, etc. but no other civilian clothes!
