Countdown to 2011 Recognition

Recognition for the Class of 2011 will take place 13-15 March 2008. After the class has been recognized, the cadets are authorized to wear the standard chrome-plated prop and wings on their flight caps. Cadets who are direct descendants of members of the Army Air Corps, Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP), have a parent with at least 20 years of military service, or if either parent participated in combat as a member of any U.S. military service or if a parent died in the line of duty are authorized to wear the gold prop and wings.

Only 22 days to the start of Recognition. It wasn’t long ago that you were counting down to I-day. 2012 your countdown is next!

hooah for the gold p&w. :)

SPRING DATES

Spring Break: 20-30 Mar
Dean’s Weekend: 10-11 May (no military activities so cadets can study)
Finals: 12-16 May
Graduation: 28 May
Class of 2012 in-processes: 26 Jun

thats right almost 21 days until the begginning of the end of the 4 degree life.... so sad.....:(....cough..haha. Then it will be the countdown for the incoming of the blue caps..;) :)..hehe. haha

I wonder how many of you '11ers will find blue footprints odd.

I'm excited for you guys. I definitely hate being greeted. I really find it awkward. 19 days, yo. Get up for it.

19 days until the beginning of the end, 26 until Spring Break. ;)

Are the Gold p&w authorized if you had a grandparent who served in combat, or just a parent?

It draws closer...

Not close enough Falcon. Cannot wait for this to be over, and 2011 to have completed it. It will be nice to know what Squadrons you will be in, and what your summer plans will include. Hopefully only those that want it will (1) week and a bunny, and the rest will get jump/soar, and a good base.

From the post, it seems like Gold P&W are only if the grandparent was AAC or WASP. But, I'm no expert.

18 days and counting. Can't wait to see how the 2011's feel once they finish on the 15th of March.

"Beware the Ides of March!"

About the gold prop and wings, I thought to get them by having a military family member serving over 20 years, that they had to be an Academy Grad?

no, they do not have to be academy grads.

Really? When did they make the change? I remember seeing that they had to be academy grads in the 2011 Contrails...

Unless it changed this year, if you have a parent with 20+ years in service, you are eligible. Not necessarily a grad.

A Dirty Dozen days until recognition. Hooah!

So "Recognition" is the official end of BCT? They can start receiving Care Packages then??

Not quite...there are several milestones at the Academy. Orientation, I-day, First BCT (on the hill getting uniforms, and learning to march) about 3 weeks, Second BCT (in jacks valley playing in the mud and being tormented), Acceptence Day (a parade in mid-august that celebrates acceptance into the wing), Parents weekend (Labor-day) first chance to really get some brief time with your cadet, Prog (mid-semester grades) will determine if you end up on Academic probation (should get unlimited phone privileges by then). The halloween parade, Thanksgiving break (5) days. Christmas Break (3) weeks, Forty Days or Ramp-Up the grueling/depressing phase the four degrees are surviving now. (100's night) The night 4 degrees get turned loose to create havoc in firstie rooms, and fast closing recognition.

Recognition is when the Squadron/Wing officially recognize the 4 degree cadets as members of the Squadron/Wing. You get to wear civilian clothes again, and greetings of upperclassmen are no longer required. you can eat at Mitch's without being at attention or some close form of attention.

That sounds like torture! ...so when can they get packages? ...and when is BCT officially over? WHEN DO THEY GET TREATED NICELY???
