THe interview

Awesome. You live in Maine, right? Are you an eighth grader? How many days of school are you missing (if any).

You are so lucky your parents will tour with you. If I apply to boarding schools, I'll have to do a phone interview or meet with a representative in my area. I REALLY want to visit a school if I apply, though. So I'm tihnking that I won't apply to boarding school, but to a day school, and if that works out I will stay there or I will apply to boarding school the following year for my sophomore year. A lot of students enter sophomore year anyway, almost the same amount as freshman year. Maybe I could tour over the summer.. i don't know.

Anyway, I'm just rambling. Answer the questionsss. :)

P.S. - Chaos Theory, I don't have any interviews scheduled. I'm going to an open house next sunday, though.

My dad arrives two days after the open houses. -_-

The interview is the time for the school to get to know you, to start to get a feel for how you will fit into the school community. It is also the time for you to find out about the school. Find out about things that are important to you. I think you need to show that you've done your research on the school so don't ask questions that were clearly addressed in their view book! But maybe drill down a bit from things you know about the school. For example, the school assigns you an academic advisor who becomes a very important part of your school experience. So, maybe you want to ask "How are advisors chosen for incoming students?" You also want the interviewer to know you are interested in their school and that you will be a strong contributor to their community.

Thanks Shelley

You don't have to have your interviews scheduled by now, but it's a good idea if you want to get the process started. I'm not starting my applications until after the visits. I live in Maine, I'm in 8th grade. I'm not missing any days of school, but I am missing parent-teacher conferences (oh, well). We basically have a five-day weekend now.

Chaos -- In my opinion, it is a good idea to schedule your interviews now. Can you email back and forth with your dad? You can still get interviews scheduled after he returns, but they might tend to be during less convenient times, like in the middle of the week and during the winter. If your parents will be doing lots of driving, it would be best to avoid the possibility of winter snow storms.

^^Yeah, especially since you aren't used to New England weather (Didn't you say on a previous thread that you didn't live in New England?)

I am not used to New England weather, but I am used to Michigan weather. :)

I'm going to try and get something done my tomorrow. My dad and I usually chat online. so communication is not a problem. I will try to schedule interviews in mid-November.

Winter storms are a possibility, but I'm willing to take that chance. :)

Michigan weather is completely different than New England weather. ;) I hope you do schedule an interview soon.

How is it completely different?

In the winter, there's TONS of snow and it's really cold and windy and gross.

New England might get a little more snow, though. I don't know.

I was being sarcastic (note the winking emoticon).

drnancie, can you shed some light on your son's interview? I believe he had his interview yesterday or today. I hope it went swimmingly for parents and student.
We are still at the beginning stages of my D#2 process. We are trying to figure out how we are going to get to both coast's with the minimal amount of time away from school. Her school seems to require so much work that it's seems easy to get behind and she does not want this to occur. I'm hoping once she interviews on the East coast she'll say that she would prefer not to go West. Some may be asking, why not the other way around? Well, I have one D on the East Coast and I would prefer to keep them close for at least one year. So my thought process say's go East first before it gets too cold, then go West. My hope is she'll fall in love with a school or two and decide to just go with the school's on the EC.

I'm baaaaack!! I just got back from my interviews which went, on the whole, pretty well. I'll post a comprehensive report on them tomorrow when I have a little more life in me.
