The Last Place You'd Ever Go...

Several people have said they wouldn't want to go the Umass? WhY?

Hahah I live in Greenville. Home to BJU!!! WHOOOOO

But yeah...I wouldn't go to any college within 45 minutes of where I live.
Clemson University
Furman University
Winthrop
Converse
USC Upstate
Wofford
Erskine
etc.

I also wouldn't go to College of Charleston, though that is a far lengthier drive
I wouldn't go to like the Naval Academy or the Citadel or anything either.

I probably wouldn't want to go to school in Oklahoma either

I wouldnt mind going to college in the city my dad wants me to go to Suny Marine...for Meteorology(i used to wanna be one but not ne more and now i dont remember how to spell iT!!) lol i also hate it b/c sooo little women(yickk)

so im reading these posts and ive seen an unbelievable amount of "the last place i would ever go would be harvard"

come on guys, is harvard really that muh different from yale? and if so can someone please tell me how because ill probably be applying to both next fall and id like to know how...thanks guys

o0o and also: the last place i would ever go would also be University of Florida

besides the fact that anyone can get in there and everyone from all of the schools in florida go there, the school is absolutely enormous with 40,000+ people there and its in gainesville and there is absolutely nothing in gainesville!! all there is are bars and all people do is get drunk and party all of the time, and i mean constantly, college is about learning too ya know...plus its like a 8 hour drive from where i live in very south florida and the nearest airport is in jacksonville, an hour away from gainesville!

Yes, Harvard is very different from Yale. First of all, the overall mentality is very different. Every student at Yale loves almost every aspect of their school, while at Harvard, the social life pretty much sucks and even the academics aren't fantastic. My dad went to the Kennedy School at Harvard for his masters, and he honestly does not feel that the college has a very good program. Plus, to get into Harvard you have to be ridiculously competitive. The level of competition at Harvard makes for a campus fill of jerks, but that is just my opinion.

Alright, Yale and Harvard are fairly similar, really. Sorry to offend some of you, but many, many kids interested in one school are interested in the other, at least somewhat. Although different, similar types of kids go to each. I know people at one school that loved it and others that hated it. One of the greatest benefits of each school is the name on the degree and the people that you meet.

As to U of F, someone is getting rejected.

http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/frprofile.html

Growing up in the 50's and 60's in New Jersey you could still have the car windows closed and the smells from the Turnpike around Newark were pretty bad....but they cleaned that up a LONG time ago. I'll plug New Jersey here....a hidden gem with beautiful countryside that people are unaware of. (Nothing like hijacking a thread here.....sorry!..couldn't resist)

People who say that last place they would go is Harvard can not be taken seriously. The thread is not the last Ivy league school you would go to, but rather encompasses the spectrum of thousands of schools in the nation. Harvard has arguably some of the brighest minds in the country and to place it below Central Iowa State, etc is just ridiculous. It seems people like to reject things before they reject you.

Anywhere that:

Is in the middle of a huge city, with some exceptions. Case Western--ok. NYU--no way in hell!

Is either extremely liberal or extremely conservative. Religious fascist military outposts like BJU or free love communes like Brown just don't do it for me, I like political diversity, as well as socioeconomic.

Has a ridiculous name. I suppose this is a bit hypocritical, considering I go to Dartmouth, but...

Is in the cornfields. I gotta have my hiking :D

Feels like a furnace the better part of the year. Sorry Stanford, I prefer the northern latitudes.

Is called Cornell.

Yeah, I know I'm picky.

P.S. I would rather go to Harvard than Yale (and I was born in, and grew up near, New Haven).

thining about this a little more, i've realized i wouldn't want to go to any of the ivy's.. maybe it's just my opinion, but i don't like the overall attitude of the ivy's towards admissions (maybe this is a way of saying i can't get in, but i dunno).. i live right next to upenn and know a bunch of ppl that go there, and they tell me that a lot of the kids just aren't.. cool.. too driven, to jerky.. so on..

that's a stereotype of course.. but that stereotype is enough for me to have a "blah" feeling when thinking about ivy league schools.. even though im still applying to penn.. but that's for the money.. and it's third to bottom on my list.

stanford, julliard, USC, or any where in the deep south

I happen to be lutheran but Texas Lutheran has downright disgusting facilities.

Oh, and the ppl in Cal. Lu's addmisions office cannot make complete sentences-YUCK!

MIT.

I suck at math. I hate math.

I third with NYU..although I was accepted there, after I took the school tour I decided it definitely not the place for me...the dorms are crowded and it is not a great place for socialization and meeting people...other then that I would also choose probably Harvard

MIT, because I hate math and science or Wesleyan.

Anything with IT at the end- math and sience are evil.
Again, BJU, BYU, Texas A&M- Im a liberal jew, k thanks.
Any Uber-Conservative school, any school on the not accepting homosexuals list (and im straight. I just dont like people who judge like that. The next one will explain why)

The big one:

Any school that doesnt have a Musical Theater major. That just crossed over 95% of the nations schools off my list.

Okay, Mrs. Broflovski.

And you felt you needed to post that why? I was just stating a two good reasons why I wouln't fit in in those schools.

And that last name has nothing to do with Judiasm. Its polish. Anyone can have a last name ending with 'Ski'. If someones name was David Greenmarksberggoldmanstienowitz, then we would have an issue.

Ever watched South Park? That's Kyle's mom's name. She's supposed to be a "liberal Jew."

Nevermind. God forbid anyone have a sense of humor around here.
