Well, apparently so many of us on here in the High School Life forum take Latin and love it. Now we have a spot to talk about it.

This will be my second year of Latin. There's no way I'd even reconsider taking another language instead of Latin if I could trade Latin for another language at this point in time.

Just conversation starters...
What's your favorite part of Latin?
What was the first phrase you learned? Mine was "Quis Est Tata Tuus".)
Do you have any wierd ways or songs to remember endings?

My favorite part was my smokin' hot Latin teacher ;] Lol j/k. I just like Latin a lot...
I'm going into my third year of Latin, and my second AP class of it.
Nah, don't have any weird songs or anything really...

My favorite Latin line is from Carmina Burana: Totam tibi subdo me, loosely translated as "I give myself to you completely." (I guess literally it means "I am totally beneath you"... lol.)

One of the things (besides six in Latin) that made my class laugh this year in Latin I was make/do in Latin, and the phrase "Make me". I think a few students go in trouble when they got home and told their parents that. It doesn't even 100% sound like the f-word, but we'd exagerrate it.

It was constantly used against our teacher also.

It always made class interesting.
One day I head one of the latin students in a class as i walked down the hall yell "I like sex!". The teacher started to scold them so they responded..."What, sex in Latin means six! I like the number six!"

The song based on Carmina Burana, I should say, is epic. Carl Orff's composition.

Sorry, I don't know any Latin besides that on our currency and the commonly used vocabulary in college mottos, such as veritas, lux, and scientia. If we had it at our high school, though, I probably would have taken it.

Oh lels, I left out something when I edited. Its fixed now.

I thought you were referring to the actual Carmina Burana, not the song. I originally said Carmina Burana is an epic song, which made no sense if you were referring to the poem books. So I specified that I was referring to the song, but then left out the epic part. I wasn't trying to correct you, even if that was what I conveyed.

My sincerest apologies for the emotional distress... ;)

Lol, gotcha. Thought you were correcting me. And yeah, it's entirely epic. :]]]

My favorite Latin word to drop in conversation is... actually a name... "Aurelius." Instead of "orly?" I say "Aurelius?"... people get sooo confused. I pronounce it correctly, like "ow-ray-lee-oos," since one of my friends was all "UMPRONOUNCERIGHTPLZ." XD And people (who know me...) respond with "ya-ray-lee-oos."

Hahaha, yeah!! I have a friend whose name for Latin class is Aurelius and I call him "Aureli" as much as possible. And say "Aureli?" in his presence. It's great fun.

I'm taking my second class of Latin, but it's online so I don't have many of the funny moments you guys are talking about. My school's too lame to offer anything other than Spanish (not saying I dislike Spanish, I've taken two years of that too, I just wish my school would offer more languages like they did a few years ago.) I also didn't learn many phrases, but I got a Latin phrase calendar last year and I wrote all the phrases down in a book. I had fun looking up phrases and saying them to my friends and enemies which confused everyone but me. My favorite is Pistrix! (Shark!)
