The Lawrenceville School

So if you buy books online, then do you ship them over? They’re pretty heavy…

Is it true there are Saturday classes at Lville?

@mrnephew‌ You could have them delivered directly to the school… I guess that’s the beauty of online shopping. :)

@boardinghopes‌ Most boarding schools have Saturday classes, although lately they are disappearing in some schools. However, not every Saturday has classes. For Lawrenceville, you can check out this calendar, which shows which Saturdays have no classes.

Do we have dorm info already?

We should learn about it some time this week.

So excited!

Do you know how it’s announced? By email, I presume?

Or parent portal…

@mrnephew‌ I emailed the student services lady and she said that our house masters would be emailing us.

Thanks!

Are we going to find out our roommates too, or just our houses?

FYI: Housing is already available in Veracross

Woot! Thanks!

Wait… Where do you see it?

It shows up like one of your classes

My mom thought it was a class.

hey guys! it’s so great to see so many soon-to-be Lawrentians excited to arrive at lville. i’m a rising senior (was a new sophomore) at lawrenceville and would be happy to answer any questions you have.

i’ve only read a few pages back through this thread, but to address one question i saw - the unscheduled blocks will eventually be doubles, or at least some of them will be. all science classes have a 45 minute double per week, and all honors classes (500 level) have a 25 minute double per week. doubles can be both in the morning (so class would start at 8:15 or 8:35 instead of 9) or lunch (so class would end at 12:05 or 12:25 instead of 11:40). these will be filled in on your viewable schedule online once the school year approaches! :)

@aaralyn‌ How is coming in as a new sophomore like? It’s not something that made me nervous before, but with 2 weeks left, every little thing starts to pop up.

I’m a naturally sociable person (in my view at least), so it might be a little awkward the first few days. Everyone is coming into the house though, so I hope that helps.

@mrnephew‌ wow has CC evolved since i applied for boarding school - you can actually tag people in posts now?!

anyway. i’m not going to lie, i often do wish i had gone to lville as a freshman instead of a new sophomore. for one thing, it gave me less time to fulfill my arts/religion requirements, limiting my course options as a senior. but more immediately, almost all of my friends when i first arrived at lawrenceville were other new sophomores. my grade overenrolled new sophomores (we are the biggest class lville has ever had) and with 82 new sophomores, especially in the beginning of the year, there was a pretty clear divide between returning and new sophomores. this being said, as the year went on, everyone became more integrated, and i would say by now i have about the same number of friends who are new and returning sophomores.

it’s good that you’re naturally sociable, and probably the best part about coming into lville as a new sophomore is the house system. you get immediately welcomed into the community and everyone is very very friendly. you get to experience house traditions and compete in house olympics the first weekend. do you know if you have a roommate yet? because my roommate was insanely helpful to me the first couple weeks. she let me tag along with her, showed me the ropes around campus, and i hung out with all of her friends, and even though i am not in her friend group now, i am still very good friends with her and her friends.

hopefully this helps! rereading this post, i did mention some cons, but don’t worry, lville is still the best thing that has ever happened to me. if you have any more questions feel free to PM me!

Thanks, that helps. I’m pretty sure I’m in a single room so I’m not sure how that’ll work out. I have some weird idiosyncrasies though, so maybe it’s better for me not to have a roommate.
