The life of a typical finance intern

Hey there guys, i'm a long time stalker and a first time poster just stopping by to ask a couple questions. I'm currently in the process of searching for an internship this summer in the finance department. I am only a graduating high school senior planning to attend the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor this fall. I've been coldcalling a large major of my firms and i've finally struck some luck. I managed to get a call back from a financial analyst firm and I will be coming into their firm on thursday. I'm not sure what to expect and I was hoping you guys could give me some insight into what you usually do.

The way the guy has been talking to me over the phone he is making this whole internship process sound very relaxed. This is a great opportunity for me but i'm not sure if it's like a "real" internship. I'm expecting to have to really push myself out there in order to get more experience in the field and not do just data entry (which is what I'm probably expecting to do). For this reason, i'm wondering what are some other tasks that you finance interns do other than data entry? I'm starting to worry about questions being asked at interviews, especially like "what would you like to do at our firm and why" type. I have limited knowledge in the area and I would greatly appreciate it if you CCers could help direct me into what exactly finance interns do and the different things firms usually do. Thanks!

Since you are only a high school still, don't expect too much. Most likely they will have you perform administrative duties. If you are lucky, you may be able to conduct some research. From my experience, ask for responsibilities. You will do fine.

You might be cold calling trying to get them clients too, that seems to happen alot at "financial analyst" places.
