My arms are ok, but I’m just not comfortable in sleeveless as I have many little scars on my arms from basal cells removed and I am very fair also. I will just feel better with some covering on my arms. I too hope to find something by this summer for D1’s wedding a year from May.
How tall are you and what type of shies are you planning on wearing. That is helpful when making suggestions.
Elija J. Dresses are nice.
That’s beautiful.
Nice dresses - thanks for the links! I am 5’2”. Never have been one for tall spikes heels, but this even will be totally outside so probably wedge or block heel. Wedding website warns to consider grassy/uneven surfaces when picking shoes.
Casual Maxi’s May be overwhelming with your height. How do you feel about hi/low?
Ha, lots of things are overwhelming on me. Hi/low is not my usual look, but I have not ruled it out. Three of today’s top contenders (@Marilyn - I found a local WHBM store) were long-ish side/hi-low.
Odd question and I may be totally wrong or off base (but not meaning to be!) — might you need to size down? I sort of feel you are drowning in some of these a bit? Maybe a different size would make a difference in how you like them??? (Or alterations of course)
Please take it as a compliment!
I literally just typed the same thing and deleted! I like the pink flowers and the orange but would definitely try a smaller size.
First dress is Macy’s. Other 3 from WHBM (White House Black Market) salesperson was the nicest I’ve ever worked with, and I had a lot of time there alone since hubby was in another store. Their sizes are crazy on these styles. Light print is a size 2. Dark print is a size 4, but they would order a 2 if I decided on that one. (Last one I don’t remember the size, but yes I might need smaller… just wanted to add a solid choice to the mix.)
Oh… and yes, we discussed alterations for the middle two that hubby and I liked. We think a seamstress could tuck up from the shoulders.
Is this the one shoulder? It’s my favorite (although not a color I can wear). Looks fun and comfortable.
This design makes me think of tea cozies for some reason:
Yes. That’s the one-shoulder dress. Not a great style or color for me, but I did like the pleated skirt.
This is the one salesperson and hubby favored, in the smaller size not in store. (I don’t love any of them.). He did say he feels it looks much nicer in person than in his photos. It does seem odd that none of the catalog pictures of this dress show as-is pose, only wind blown.
It was a good outing, in prep for trip to Dillards (with possibility to visit another Macy’s). Got the mail order Macy’s dresses returned and tried on a bunch in the store.
From these 4, I like the peach much better than any of the other ones and I didn’t know why. I realized it’s because it’s a solid. I think I like you better in a solid color. Plus, I agree these dresses look too big. I love the one shoulder style on you.
Colorado_mom - have you tried a sheath style dress?
@Colorado_mom , I forget - is there a request for you to wear a long/below the knee style? How do you feel about showing your legs? I am wondering if you would consider a shorter dress - you have a nice figure and with your petiteness, I wonder how just above the knee would look? I know many wedding significant others prefer longer…but I thought I’d mention it.
@Colorado_mom - what about this one from WHBM?
WHBM is one of my favorite stores, but yes - their sizes are very much vanity sizes.
Agreeing with @abasket - I need a refresher on what you are wanting on length and why. And, now I’ve forgotten your color preference! Ack! I’m old and crazy. My recollection is that you consider yourselves to be a small pear?? Concerns about hips? I think a fit and flare shape would look great on you.
EDIT: Agreeing with @conmama that Eliza J has cute dresses. On me, even the regular (not petite) dresses run short-waisted (so, I sadly cannot where that brand at all), so that brand might suit your proportions well even in a regular size.
2nd EDIT:
Here is another from WHBM. Shorter. Brighter blue. Mixed reviews on the pleats, but I think you said you liked those, which is why I am sharing it. All reviews say it runs large. I think that is particularly true of these pleated type dresses (I have one as well).
I was at WHBM yesterday and saw both dresses- they are both beautiful. Worth a try on.
I’m not usually a fan of prints but really like the Eliza J prints.
@tx5athome I love your style- the dress you picked looks great on you.
Agree that those dresses look too big at the top. Salmon color (of the one-shoulder dress) and lighter variations of it look good on you. Blues look good on you, too, but the darker colors look a bit grandma-ish. You can definitely do better than any of these WHBM dresses in your latest pic!
I prefer the two blue dresses that @Hoggirl linked. I agree with the thought that the dresses all seem big on you. You have a good figure and none of those dresses are showing it.

Another encouragement for @Colorado_mom to go down a size and perhaps try a sheath or something with not quite so much fabric.
