The MOB/MOG Dress Extravaganza!

So, this is a question about colors. Did the bride tell you Mom’s to just find colors that just blended with her color scheme, or to just not fight it. Did they care what color? I mean, it’s not like the mom’s are in any photos with the bridesmaids. If her colors are light blue, what should I stay away from? Her mom is looking at navy…which isn’t a pastel. I understand the mom’s sort of coordinating colors and hues for photos. I can’t seem to get a clear answer from the bride. I guess I need to be more direct.

Just wondering how yours went.

We asked and bride said she honestly didn’t care. H bought a navy suit and I bought a royal blue dress and MOB bought a navy dress.

I wasn’t in any pictures with the bride’s parents. In the end it didn’t matter if the MOB and I coordinated.

I do have lots of pictures with my daughter who was a bridesmaid. They wore purple and I had a blue dress. Not quite navy. It had lots of bling!

@Mom2jl very pretty! You look great!

When D1 got married, the groom’s mom waited for me to pick a dress before she bought hers. D1 told me to get a long dress and stayed away from floral. I sent her few options and she picked one for me. I think she selected her bridesmaids’ dresses after I bought my dress.
I am now looking for a dress for D2’s wedding.

When I went dress shopping, all my DD asked was that I send her a pic of any dress under consideration…which I did. She didn’t tell me the specific color to choose, but she did tell me the bridesmaid dress color and asked that I not choose that one.

I was in some pics with some members of the wedding party, and with the MOG.

As with @oldfort , I chose my dress first and then the MOG chose hers. We didn’t really “match” at all, but honestly…no one was really looking at us! And we didn’t walk down the aisle together or anything.

As another petite woman, I would have had every dress lifted at the waist or whatever. The owner of one store suggested I have a dress made. I chose a royal blue heavy silk, 3/4 sleeve, some royal blue Swarovski crystals near neckline, and so on. It was so much fun, going with 2 friends.
The next time I need a formal dress, I would do this again.

One GF is a plus-size. She also bought from this store.

It was our son who initially requested that we moms wear navy for what was supposed to be a military wedding. I posted the dress I wore upthread; GMOB wore this dress in navy. Our DIL’s mother did end up attending, and she wore a very nice tea-length dark green dress similar to this. The bridesmaids wore minty green. I also posted that it didn’t matter what I wore as there were almost no pictures of me and DH and none worth ordering. Also, it was not a military wedding and DH did not get to play James Bond in a tux. :woman_shrugging:

Our 3 brides requested solid color dresses, bling and/or same color lace and or same color appliqués fine. I did run the first choices and runner-ups past them and they were all fine.

There are no wedding attendants for our S’s wedding. I chose a knee length dress as the venue has sone uneven flooring and it seemed better not to have a long gown on that surface. My dress has subtle sequins and was remarkably reasonably priced (under $50). Made up for it by really splurging on a custom kimono duster with 3d butterflies as a wrap in case I’m cold in the evening.

We bought D (sis of groom) an adorable and custom made bustier fashioned of old obis and beading with black palazzo pants. She looks very stylish!

@conmama , since I consider you one of our CC “fashionistas”, would love to see some “inspiration” photos of what you like/are looking for - just for fun!

I actually found my dress before the MOB found one she liked! The bridesmaids are wearing purple and my son is wearing a navy tux, so I decided I wanted to wear something blue because I like it and I thought it would blend well. I probably would have preferred something lighter than navy, but couldn’t really find anything that I liked. The bride left it mostly up to me what to choose–she didn’t specify length or color. Her mother is wearing a long floral dress (with purple in it) that looks great on her but wouldn’t suit me at all. Our dresses don’t really go together but I think it will be fine. I did run a picture of the dress by the bride before I made my final decision.

Ok…now bear in mind I don’t want to wear sleeveless. I’m just copying photos of dresses that are “me”. My seamstress might be able to change the neck, and I can’t wear firm fitting right on the tummy area. You know, I’m kind of all over the place. Ok, you asked fir it! Haha I can only do 5 at a time, so I’ll put more on another reply.

@conmama, very pretty dresses

I really like the dress @Hoggirl wore for a recent wedding. I think it was Teri Jon. Are any of these dresses that brand? The dresses you like remind me of them.

@conmama are you thinking off the shoulder kind of sleeves or do you want the shoulders covered? Full length sleeves or 3/4 or shorter?

Yes, some of them are, just don’t know which one other than the blue with metallic. Some are Mac Douggal.

I get hit very easily. Wedding is next year beginning of October. It could be hot or cold. So, no to long sleeves (but I reserve the right to change my mind). Maybe if they were mesh with some bling on it.

I’m thinking off the shoulder. I hate my armpit fat and the skin sort of sags a bit right next to that on my arms. I just don’t like that and would like to cover it. I even saw this top of a dress I like, but not so low. I’d love it with a column style bottom. I’ve even seen some off the shoulder with some lightweight feathers

Gorgeous dresses! Do you expect the wedding to be quite formal?
