I got a 1 on AP Chem, but a 5 on physics EM. Lets just say that the chem teacher wasn't the sharpest tool in the toolshed.

Certainly foreign language exams for non-native speakers. Although there are difficult mathematic-based exams out there, such as the AP Physics E & M, AP Chemistry, and AP Calc BC tests, the foreign langauge exams are the only tests that require an individual to use several skills. You have to listen to native speakers, speak on your own, write an essay, fill in blanks in a random paragraph, and read stories and fix grammar. Plus, it's all the equivalent of a third-year langugage course. I think that's pretty tough. I took the AP German Language exam this past May, and will be thrilled for a 3.

AP Chem, most def., I've never taken Calc, and it probably is harder than I think, but MAN was Chem tough!!

So the list so far is:

AP Chem
AP Calc BC
AP Physics C
Ap Foreign Language

I don't think that Calc BC should be classified with the others. The content on it is very standard and doesn't require much thinking outside the box or complicated applications. Rather, you apply what you learned from the class directly to the test. The questions mostly fit into neat little boxes.

Chemistry wasn't hard at all...

I beg to differ...

Chemistry, Calculus BC, and Economics = the three joke APs at our school. Basically everyone who was conscious during class gets a 5. I guess it really depends on the teacher, really. I go to a public school stuck in the middle of Iowa so we're really lucky to have some pretty darn good teachers. Hardest? I think it depends on what the basis is.

For me, getting the material learned: AP Euro – there was just a buttload of stuff to read. Plus my hand started cramping after those DBQs and essays, hahah.

Actual test: Physics C, Magnetism – none of us had a clue…given, we did only have Physics B and had a first year teacher, but blarggh. What a terrible test. Even the two math-science guys in our class who got into Stanford and MIT early respectively came out laughing like madmen in utter loss and confusion. I came out and ran down the hallway with three of my friends - we too were laughing hysterically. : ) Scores turned out okay though, so it's not the hardest in which to get a 5. It's just a very very depressing test.

Hmm..of the tests I haven’t taken, it seems like the language ones (especially Latin) would be the hardest to get a 5.

It depends on what your strengths are. For me, I am terrible at English, but quite good at everything else, especially any science, math or history. Physics/Calc/Chem come easy to me, but English... that is way above my head.

I have taken French for 5 years, and I love the language. It's very easy and people say I'm good at it, but I found the AP French test surprisingly difficult. Much of it was because of testing problems (echo with the tape), but I also stumbled with the picture description (I'd suck at those in English).

cough art history

I took the Chem test in 2007, which is when the format was reformatted. I think FR was actually not that bad, but the MC was a bit more difficult for me than the FR. Sometimes, the MC questions are a bit random.

So, yeah... Chem, for me. =)

actually AP calc BC may be hard but its very easy to get a 5 on it (more than 40 percent, highest percentage)...like a 64/108 is a 5 or so.

Ap Latin Vergil

apush for me XD
i got a 1!!!!!!!!!!!! T_T

APUSH WAS hard! Well, it was TONS of work and so much to memorize. I'm more of a conceptual person, not a straight FACT person, so APUSH definitely got hard to remember at times.

Ren - do you think possibly they forgot to combine scores? Maybe you should rescore? Just a thought.

^I can see why APUSH would be hard for people who don't like facts. On the other hand, I think it's pretty easy to prepare for and you don't have question that require weird applications of what you know.

In addition, I knew nothing about Vietnam beyond when it started and that there were protests. I wrote my essay entirely on the sources presented. My other essays were similarly iffy, and I got a 5 (I have no doubt the MC was largely responsible for that).

The thing with the math/science ones is that if you can't remember the formulae or how to derive them, you're absolutely screwed. You can't just BS the way you can in humanities.

I second AP Latin: Vergil. Ouch.

From the ones I've taken, easiest to hardest would be: Psychology>>US History>>World History>>Physics B>>Latin: Vergil

Well, I could rank the tests I have taken, but there isn't much variety, since I've never taken a math/science AP.

here are mine, from easiest to hardest:

-English Literature/Composition
-U.S. History
-English Langauge/Composition
-European History
-Microeconomics
-German Language

Although noone takes it, AP Art History is prob the hardest. Think about it, we covered from millions of years B.C. to 1997 [we ended with the opening of the Getty Center]. There are 7 essays, in one section, and 120 [I think] multiple choice questions to answer in like 50 minutes. Its ridiculous. theres 4800 kids at out school. 6 took the class, cause it has a notorious reputation for being impossible [the teacher was a former curator for the Louvre]. Thank god I passed. I thought the APUSH one was easier, although I also got a 3 on it, I felt I was more apt to get a 4 or 5 after the test than I was with AH.
