I looked some MPH websites and some schools accept the MCAT in lieu of the GRE for MPH admissions (Tufts, Tulane in particular, but I'm sure there are other public health schools out there that accept MCAT, especially schools that take applications through SOPHAS) so I must assume there are many pre-meds in MPH programs. I know, getting into a MPH program is no bonus for med school apps at the same med school.

Is it me or there are a lot of failed pre-meds in MPH programs? Is a MPH a sensible backup to med school?

Some kids have passion for certain things. My friend’s daughter graduated out of Yale with a public health major. She had admissions into every top school (JHU, Harvard, Yale …) to do MPH. She chose to do it at London School of Public Health. Last year she came back for the summer break, prepared and took MCAT as a backup plan. She got a 39! She wanted her parents not to talk about it to avoid the pressure from everybody about applying to med schools. The proud parents, however, couldn’t resist spilling the beans :D

^ Sound like this parent. (The part of spilling th beans) :(

Sometimes I do feel yalies by a higher percentage choose none/less moneyed path (compared to comparable school.)

Unlike UG or More pure MD-only programs, MPH programs seem to have a higher percentage of internationals. But the situation is not extreme as in the top engineering graduate programs.
