I have NO idea what some of this stuff is but I would assume cadets do.

I really do 'Not' think that the cadets take their computer to Buckner. Too much dirt. Too much dampness. I believe they either lock them up in their company's trunk room or leave them at home.

I asked her abt the computer---she locked hers up last year at Buckner but she said it was something she had wished she had brought. Not sure why--maybe for the ipod, to watch movies, or perhaps she wanted to be able to get to it when Buckner was over since there was leave before returning back for the academic year and she wanted access to it sooner. We are over 3000 miles away so leaving it at home is not always an option and locking it up in the trunk room may not have been the best choice.

Interesting...we weren't allowed to bring our laptops to Buckner, and any that were found were confiscated. I'd consider buying a cheap DVD player instead...that way you can still watch movies, and I think some of them can double as iPod speakers?

I left my computer in the trunk room over the entirety of Yuk Summer, locked in my trunk. It came through fine. However, that was the same summer that F1 (I think) had their trunk room flood...so a lot of people lost some nice stuff that year. Things to think about...

Cadets are specifically told 'not' to bring their computer to Buckner. So bringing it would be against the rules and not a really great idea.

Shogun, you mentioned that your cadet locked her computer up at Buckner? I think that the computer was actually locked up at WP.

I think the idea of bringing a small DVD player is good, as long as it is allowed. It looks to me as if the schedule is so compacted there may not be nearly as much 'down time' as in past years.

OK, as Cadre for FOB Buckner this year, i kinda know what's going on. The schedule will be eactly the same as the Buckner for 2009. The deal is, Ft. Knox is still on the schedule, and probably will remain there until they close the armor school there and move it. They've been telling every class since 2008 that MMT (Mounted Maneuver Training) would not happen. The major things to know are that DVD players can be a life saver in the bays, we only have 6 days "off" from actual training, but of those days, there will be ample time to enjoy a DVD or two. As for computers, I was part of the radio station, so i kept mine locked in the closet at Barth Hall. Whenever we had a few hours, me and my fellow DJs went over and pulled out the speakers and played music for the other cadets. The training is still fluctuating, but since we made a complete change last year, DMI is still adjusting to the new scheme and how it will works.
