OH! Daughter is practically in tears. She got up at 5 am to sign on to the collegeboard site to get her scores....only to be told that HERS are among "a small batch that will not be available for release until April 18"

She is so upset - no more explanation that that. Do you think this means that there is something wrong with her test? Worse, she will now have even less time to review her March scores before taking the May test. In a word, this stinks. (Well, not quite the word I'd like to use but that word is not for public message boards).

I have been on hold on the college board phone for the past 10 minutes.

Oh Carolyn, I feel for you and your little D. Not so little, maybe, but still. I hope someone here can give you some idea of what this means. Even a week can feel like such a long time.

Well, that sucks. Last year, my kid did the March test and retook in May - he concentrated on math in the interim. In May, his math went down 20 points and his verbal went up 80. I think your D's best bet is to prep on the area that she can stand to work on for the next week.

I'll bet its the stinking essay grading that's holding up the works.

I recall hearing that scores can be held/delayed if there was something questionable going on at the testing site. i.e. an allegation that the proctor ended the test too soon or gave out the wrong instructions and someone's parent complained or whatever. In such a case, the scores are held until the matter can be investigated. If the determination is that there was some sort of error made, they may cancel the scores.

This is just one of the reasons for delayed scores. I'm sure there are dozens of other possible reasons.

Oh, no! Ugh.
The only thing to do is to go with her guts as to her performance on the SAT and work on the area she feels was the weakest. Practice for the May test as if she needs to retake it. If it turns out that she won't, all the better. Cyber hug to her!

They said that only 8% of the scores were released today --- So it's hardly a "small batch" that were not released today. She also said that they do not know when all scores will finally be released for sure.

Additional scores, probably in small batches again, will be released on this friday and again next just monday but getting ALL of the scores out may take "several weeks or longer". She said there is a chance that my daughter may not even have her scores before the May test.

Explanation she gave is that the new test is taking longer to score than expected and that it is not an indication that there is anything wrong with daughter's test. (Bear in mind that the college board already gave themselves an extra two weeks to score the tests over the old tests).

This really stinks. My guess is they have encountered problems with scoring the essays. But, the least College Board could have done is explain there was going to be a delay on their site last night.

Oh, carolyn, you and d have my heartfelt sympathy.

The same thing happened to us with s's ACT scores last Dec. The scores were up on the web for a week and half, and some folks had even gotten theirs in the mail, before s's scores were available. [And how many times did I call ACT helpline to ask why and when? ;-) ] We needed to see them b/c we had to decide right away if we were going to send those scores on to his schools to be in time for the Jan 15 priority app deadline.

Waiting for test scores--whether SAT/ACT or PET/MRI--is exasperating!!

Tell your D we're pulling for her. I hope you both have a busy week so you won't have time to stress over this.

I agree; and it does not bode well for future administrations of the test. But at least, your D does not have to worry that it's something to do with her test as such. Still, it is crushing to be set up for so much anticipation already and to have to extend it further.

I am so sorry. All of the waiting involved in this college search is soo hard. My best to you and her. You have to wonder about this new test...

Oh Carolyn, that does stink, there are going to be a lot of unhappy people around the country today! If this continues, CB may have a real problem.

Lhasa, if you or a loved one is waiting for PET/MRI, you have my prayers! Best of luck.

What's especially bad (at least for me as D. doesn't read CC) is that so many kids are posting their scores on the SAT thread and there doesn't seem to be any HUGE out cry about kids not getting their scores today. I am starting to doubt the CB's explanation that only 8% were released today.
Lhasa - ditto to what Cangel said if your loved one is waiting on a PET/MRI. That kind of puts things in perspective.

Marite,
Yes, but only 4 kids here on CC have complained about not getting their. Don't you think that there would be more kids complaining if only 8% have been released. (Now I really am getting crazed.)

Hmmm, maybe. But I am almost positive she said "only" 8% have been released. At this point, who knows. D. just left for school and is very disinheartened. Oh well, this too shall pass...eventually.

Oh, no, not right now! I'm sorry, I should have made that clear. :-/

I was just reminded of how often friends from another BB and I have felt like going crazy with the waiting for the call from the doc, and remembered that waiting for S's scores felt pretty much the same way.

I didn't mean to be misleading. All is well with health on our home front at the moment, and I'm 4 years NED! Thanks for the expressions of support.

Marite, you are right. Only 8% not released, not 92%. Us crazed moms sometimes have selective hearing. Sigh. This will not make daughter happy at all.

Look at it that way. If "only" 8% were not released, it will take less time for them to be released than if 92% had not been! Small comfort right now, I know.
