Yes, UMich-ANN ARBOR campus looks "GREAT" rather than beautiful.

From what I've seen:

1) Dartmouth.........The archetype of a perfect college
2) Swarthmore.......gorgeous landscape, silent feel
3) Brown...............Colonial
4) Bryn Mawr.........Gothic Castles
5) Cornell..............Natural and cold (old v New)
6) Wisconsin..........Great Location for a college
7) Stanford...........beautiful....artifice
8) Virginia.............classic
9) Williams............Mountains!
10) Wellesley..........Gothic...lonely girls (lol)

Umich+Ann Arbor is a runner up.

Duke and Vanderbilt

Swarthmore (landscaping)
Middlebury (new england charm + nice town)
Reed (portland+the tiny canyon)
Carleton (snow + lakes)
Scripps (so cal queen)
Colby (snow+maine)
Colorado College (moutain)

Duke University (gothic inspiration with Southern charm)
Middlebury College (classic New England architecture with breathtaking scenery)
Princeton (just feels like a college should--similar to Duke but more variety in styles)

I'm surprised more people didn't say Princeton - the campus is gorgeous

1) Duke University- Most beautiful by far.
2) University of Chicago- Nice blend of neo-gothic architecture and landscaping despite being an urban campus.
3) Wake Forest University/Davidson College- You gotta love the magnolias.
4) Western Carolina University- Actual campus is not very impressive, but the surrounding scenery is simply breathtaking.
5) Bowdoin College/Colby College- Extremely beautiful scenery in Maine.

1) Dartmouth--The true classic of Colleges
2) Swarthmore--Beautiful
3) Wellesley--Grand
4) Haverford--Serene
5) Duke--Yale wannabe w/out New Haven (though, close to Durham..ahh!)

in a different part of the US.....Bucknell and Miami of OH...both picture postcard gorgeous, especially in the fall, although both are out in the middle of nowhere!

Wow all the Dartmouth acceptees, are sticking up for Dartmouth! I loved Dartmouth, but
Swarthmore and Rhodes College are the 2 most beautiful I saw. Yale is looming, but gritty. Univ of Richmond is serene red brick with a lovely lake. The 3 that always get a lot of press that I haven't seen are Princeton, Furman and Wellesley - I may get to Furman, but my son doesn't the grades for Princeton or the genes for Wellesley ;).

In the winter: UCLA, and maybe Berkeley when the flowers are right.
In the fall, Wellesley, Colgate, and Cornell when the autumn leaves are in full color.

Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr, and the college that accepts my children with the most generous financial aid package are also beautiful.

Kalidescope, I appreciate the way you state what it is about each of your choices that appeals to you (archetype of a perfect college, gorgeous landscape, silent feel, Colonial, Mountains!, etc.).

of the ones ive been to, Colgate and Lehigh take the cake. Holy Cross was also very nice, same with Lafayette

Dartmouth was ok, nothing spectacular

Rhodes,
Swarthmore,
Sewanee,
William and Mary,
Duke, though somehow imposing

Actually, if you look at the architecture more closely, we're Princeton wannabes. Get your facts straight.

Of the ones I've seen (from UCLA, Georgetown, USD, UCSD, Claremont Colleges, CSUSB, USC, San Diego State, UCR):

UCLA

Georgetown

University of San Diego (USD)

I have to go visit Stanford, should I be accepted, and Berkeley as well.

Stanford, Dartmouth, UVA and (when the construction is done), Williams.

It's interesting that a couple folks said Vandy. I was very enthusiastic about taking my D there for a visit a year ago but I was pretty underwhelmed. There seemed to be no site planning or design consistency, and the front lawn has the boiler plant smokestack as a backdrop. What did I miss?

my thought
1.USC..OMG!! never seen a better campus than that. I am obssessing about this college. I don't get it...people tend to look at this college really bad because of the location, but DAYUm..trust me..very very safe.
2. Stanford..very professional..haha
3.UCLA..very rich area and the campus is very good..but not as good as USC.
4.Pepperdine..such as beauty.
5. UCSD. very well located.

Williams, Dartmouth and Swat.
