S18 received his certificate from the school but still has not received a letter, which I assume has the login information for the Online Scholarship Application (OSA)? Is that a correct assumption? Should we be concerned it is lost and call, or wait (kinda) patiently?
@Postmodern The letter doesn’t have any login info, they use the essay and info summitted on the portal months ago. The letter did state which school DS had picked as #1 but that seem to be the only unique info on the letter.
Oh ok, thanks, he did that also, I thought there was another round of stuff to do… I guess we had better do some reading! lol…
@jeh3924 I got a call yesterday from his Guidance Counselor. She had called him into her office to see if had heard anything as she had not. He told her the secretary handed him the Certificate last week and she said she has NO IDEA. Who opens the mail in that school? I imagine the Certificate is mailed with the principals name on it. I can’t imagine that nobody told her. LOL.
Gc’s don’t know.
My DS’s GC didn’t know. He knew there was a letter addressed to the principal, who then gave the certificate to my son. But when I told the GC, he said he suspected, but never got confirmation from the principal that my son was a finalist. So it’s not all that unusual for the GC to be out of the loop.
i just want to know… why won’t they give out the certificates at D’s school…??? are they saving them for the senior award night?
the whole process is a bit silly- they could give out the letter when they get it and just hand out a fake one at any ceremony or graduation like they do with diplomas- unless in todays age of political correctness they don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings who didn’t get the award and therefore just want to downplay the award all together
@okeydokeypokey - crazy that they wouldn’t tell the guidance counselor… she would presumably be the one to, you know, provide some guidance on this whole journey?!?
So my school hasn’t said anything and I haven’t gotten a letter either. It looks like everyone else knows if they made finalist. Does that mean that I’ve been rejected?
You should call them right now. It isn’t 5 yet in Evanston, Illinois.
Update: Just checked the mail and I’ve been rejected. I hoped, since I didn’t hear anything and it’s late February now, that I passed, but I guess not.
Sorry Saturn, that really sucks. But given that you are a NMSF you are still up for some great offers !
What state are you in @Saturn1 ?
@Philipper, thanks, it’s disappointing I didn’t become a finalist but there are other offers. And I live in Colorado.
Actually, as it turns out, my parents got the letter weeks ago but hid it because “you’re really stressed out this month and we were waiting for a time when you didn’t have so many things going on,” and then today I asked my mom if she’d gotten a letter and she told me it was sitting in the drawer where we put all our mail…and I understand why they did that because I had a lot of stuff going on this month but I don’t think my parents realize that they basically gave me false hope for almost a month. I’d rather have known back then and it would’ve actually lessened my anxiety and stress to finally know, not add to it.
@Saturn1 Hugs. Sorry about the news. And I can understand why your parents did what they did, but gosh – after all the waiting, it’s tough to come out disappointed. You clearly have the what it takes, having made it as far as NMSF, and I wish you the best on your road to college.
Yes, we parents have the best of intentions at times but don’t always make the best choices. I know UT Tyler offers Tuition books and fees for NMSF in addition when I spoke with their scholarship people last fall they were working on a full cost of attendance scholarship for students that earned a 1400+ on the SAT. Make sure you check with the scholarship offices of the places you are applying, you never know what is available.
@hafamama Thank you for your kind words. I guess I really should look at it optimistically.
@Phlipper I’ll do just that, thanks!
@Saturn1 , Washington State U gives full tuition for NMSF. https://admission.wsu.edu/scholarships/national-merit/
@Crashthepunisher, I saw you thread about small D3 schools for AE with swimming. Just wanted to ask where did your son ended up applying and what did you guys choose. I’m in your shoes now, the only difference is I have a daughter , she will graduate in 2020 and we started looking for schools now.
