i think i'm making the transition from being a christian to atheist. I remember when I very firmly believe there was a god... and literally overnight it was gone (i remember the night when it happened). It wasn't even an important night. It was the same as any other.

i still hope there's a god (mostly so that there's a heaven). I just don't think there is one.

This thread may seem a bit silly.... I'm not trying to condescend anyone's intelligence here, but claims of "radical atheism" or "agnosticism" are very difficult with such minimal knowledge and comprehension of high school students. I'm sure that this being CC, more intelligible conversation may arise than in many other forums, but I can't understate the complexities behind such broad and absolute belief claims. Saying "there's a higher level being, but not the same as the Judeo-Christian deity" or "there's a god, but we can't comprehend him/her/it" leads to such long discussions it really makes my head hurt.

Seriously, we're talking about the origin of the universe and life itself. Great minds have spent ages contemplating such basic questions, and the greatest theologians and philosophers still have not displayed an infallible proof of either God's existence or non-existence. that it becomes ridiculous to lay claim to any supposed "rational belief" with such minimal scope of understanding. I think most teenagers, and moreover many adults, are in position, and lack the intellectual capacity to make a truly informed decision about their religion, but unfortunately, everyone has to make this choice.

Oh yah. I'm a HS Senior who's really into philosophy, but I know jack about theology, and the little religion I know is based mostly of a couple of articles and catechism study I've done. Actually, I haven't really contributed to this thread much, so sorry --. What I think (which may sadly seem like a copout) is that there are extremely intelligent, rational individuals who strongly believe in God, and others who are adamant about the opposite. I'm no where near authority, so I'll just act in a way as moral as I can and as respectful to my fellow individuals as possible. Moral relativism becomes another major argument, and that's one thing that leads to angry mobs and mass killings ><.

you just accept that after death, there's nothing. You just die. But that's too bleak of an outlook for me. I like to think that there's something wating for me after I croak!

God is real.
Death is a bunch of propaganda used by the Bush administration to try to levy support for their piece of #*&$ war in Iraq. IMPEACH!
