you guys. 1785 is there for a reason. did you all forget the NORTHWEST ORDINANCE OF 1787?!?!

That was basically the answer to the lack of slavery in the north.
Also, manufacturing vs agrarian.
Also, missouri compromise.

no we didn’t, hence why it has been mentioned a hundred times

how exactly are the dbq and frq scored?

like is it do you get a point for each cue word or what?

wowie… i highly doubt…

is ur ap teacher an ap scorer?? plus… u know that they don’t scan it right? they read it directly from the answer document.

i think everyone is overestimating their essay scores.
i mentioned all those missouri compromise, cotton gin, great awakening etc stuff and i’m still only hoping for a 5 out of 9.

i dont know i’m just saying what they ingrained in us at my school. my proctor said the same thing. maybe they just do it to us to scare us, but i’m just saying my personal opinion

sounds like you’re underestimating your score, unless your writing was bad

no, i’m a good writer
but i just thought that the people who said “oh, i got at least an 8”
are being very unrealistic. 8 is basically perfect, and is a reach for anyone, i don’t think people should expect it.

ah what done is done. it doesn’t matter if you feel they got an 8 or a 5, and who’s right or wrong with their scores. i guess we will all see when we get the results.

i was just wondering how everything is scored?

onechance - I actually asked my teacher this, who was a reader for a few years. He said that he had no idea whether it was okay to write in pencil or not, because all he ever got to grade were the photocopied pieces of paper. So i mean, the only problem is that the pencil might not photocopy that well? But who knows.

AND btw, I’m fairly sure that the date for the DBQ was 1770-1830, or perhaps 1775. But I don’t recall it being 1785

I was just wondering out of curiosity how much did everyone study and how good did their teacher prepare them? And where did you stop at in class?

I studied the night before. I didn’t study anything else and I had a pretty good teacher. We stopped at Reagan.

Lucky for me, everything the test covered I was pretty good at. Thank god for no essays on the progressive era!

The time frame was 1775-1830. Very disappointing in my opinion. Doesn’t that seem a little narrow? Technically I wasn’t supposed to even mention Turner’s Rebellion. CB is just full of surprises. Wouldn’t it make sense to just outline the time as being the Antebellum period?

ughh! i was feeling pretty good about my DBQ until i realized 80% of my info was outside of that time period (frederick douglass, harriet tubman, turner’s rebellion…)

didn’t even mention the missouri compromise. i thought we were supposed to focus on black involvement in abolitionism but i guess missouri comp answers the first part of the question about why north & south had differences.

8 is not unrealistic at all and definitely not a reach. You just must be bad at history in general if you think this way.

Dang… i wish i included the Missouri Compromise / NW Ordinance. It would’ve explained the expansion / reduction of slavery a lot more easily

I personally feel though that the Missouri compromise only explains why slavery was allowed to proliferate in the South and why slavery could not proliferate in the North, YET, this does not explain why slavery already in the North diminished…

I forgot to mention the Northwest Ordinance, but I almost feel it’s unnecessary–if everybody mentioned it, readers may even become tired of it and be happy with different/alternative viewpoints (I simply said that the land out west was good for farming/plantations, etc)

zing, 8’s are generally close to perfect, i wouldn’t count on them

This is what I did.

DBQ: Mine sucked.

-Industrial North vs. Agrarian South
-Freedmen
-Blacks in Revolution
-Slave Breeding
-AME church
-Ban on Importation of Slaves

FRQ #2:

Thesis: Something about enforcing mercantilism and infringement of civil liberties.

Mercantilism
-French of Indian War
-Navigation Acts
-Indirect Taxes
-Sugar Act
-Direct Taxes
-Stamp Act
-Townshend Acts

Analysis: Explained what mercantilism was and discussed how Britain thought that the colonies needed to pay for some of their protection, but the colonists thought that they no longer needed a big army (doesn’t fit with my paragraph, I know). Mercantilism also limited colonial America’s ability to be self-sufficient and expand economically. Bleh

Enforcing mercantilism and colonies’ response
-Boston Tea Party
-Sons and Daughters of Liberty
-Intolerable Acts
-Declaratory Act

Analysis: Don’t remember

Civil liberties
-Quartering Act
-Quebec Act
-Proclamation of 1763

Analysis: Quartering Act violated colonists’ right to privacy and there was no representation in parliament for making laws. Also if people violated any of the laws they were tried in admiralty courts. Quebec Act and Proclamation of 1763 - People thought that they had the right to settle the land that they fought for. Quebec Act - Protestant colonists were inflamed that French Catholicism could be practiced freely (not sure how that fit with my paragraph).

If I had time I would have talked about Thomas Payne and John Dickinson’s philosophies as well as John Locke’s natural laws. I forgot about John Dickinson’s name during the test and I also ran out of time.

I’m not even going to bother with FRQ# 5. I did not do so well.

Slaves were free due to the Revolutionary war. I believe it was Doc A that mentioned some king or something saying that whoever was willing to fight, which included slaves and indentured servants, they would be free. However, once free, many blacks complained how they didn’t get the same priveleges as whites. They couldn’t vote or have any voice in anything.

I included all this info in my DBQ.

This whole year, I have gotten the feeling that I really stink on my essays and DBQs. However, I’m hoping that my teacher was just a tough grader, and I end up with a surprise in July. I actually felt pretty confident about the set of essays on Friday. We’ll see… :)
