The official 2009 APUSH after exam discussion thread

Did anyone else feel the documents provided didn’t really fit the question? I felt I was forcing them into my writing.

I chose FRQ 2 and 4. I thought 2 was fairly easy, and I mentioned the Proclomation Line (British controlling colonists - mad), Stamp Act/Boston Tea Party/Intolerable Acts (taxation without representation), and the first continential congress/olive branch petition (british not lisenting to americans - lead to revolution). However, I though the other FRQ was difficult. I did the AF of L (mentioning Samuel Gompers and a few strikes) as well as the Socialist Party (Eugene V. Debs)…I basically said they kinda succeeded and kinda didn’t because the AF of L declined due to anti-trust legislature (was this out of the time frame?) and the Socialists declined due to the Red Scare in 1919. I get the AF of L, Knights of Labor, and the IWW confused, so do you think we had to be really specific about what each union did? Also, I mentioned the Keating-Owens Act as a success of all unions (even though I put it was struck down by SCOTUS later). What do you think?

i chose 3 and 4. anyone write about 3? what did you write about?

I also chose FRQ 3, I feel like I’m in the extreme minority haha.

Thesis: Republicans emerged out of the issue of slavery in the territories

Social–>Western expansion leads to new “frontier society”, most of which did not want slavery in the territories (Mormons because of religion, 49ers because they were poor, and therefore did not support slavery as much since they weren’t invested in it) West became major part of Republican party (First presidential candidate was John C. Fremont of CA)

Political–>Downfall of the Whigs left an opening in the two-party system, creating a large amount of third parties (like Liberty Party and Know-Nothings) when a “hot-button” issue (slavery in the territories) came up, these parties and movements merged to form the Republican party

Economic–>Slavery took jobs, so when issue of slavery in the territories came up, lower class wanted jobs, and therefore supported the Republican

Who else did 4 and what did they write?

bigwill: slaves who fought for the british crown were to be freed, and since they lost thenn…

PreLives43 or others who did 3:

for that question, did you actually split the essay up that way - as in, political, social, and economic in actual categories? or did you just discuss it as a whole, while also including political, social, and economic factors?

i’m really curious as to why people are allowed to discuss sat II MCs but not AP MCs

Yeah, that is a good question.

Especially because they LITERALLY reuse SAT II’s at times…(I don’t know if they literally reuse APs?)

MakeLove - your mercantilist points in the American Revolution essay were kinda… incorrect.

bigwill - Doc A was spoken by Lord Dunmore, a British leader. Doc B was written by a slave who fought in the revolutionary war, and was mad that he wasn’t allowed to be free for his service. Sorry

Mcgoogly - The guy in Doc B was free if you read thoroughly. He just didn’t get the rights of free men, such as voting.

I hesitated and decided not to put Pontiac’s Rebellion into essay number 2, since I couldn’t quite remember what year it took place. Now I’m regretting it, but whatever.

AliBubble - Don’t fret over not including Pontiac’s Rebellion. It wasn’t that important. It involved Indians rather than colonial Americans.

Bee123–Literally split it up by body paragraphs. The way those questions are asked, it begs for a five paragraph essay. I’m just going the way my teacher taught us, and nobody has failed the exam in his class yet (only been teaching for 4 years, but still a great track record)

i’m suprised no one talked about shays rebellion. one of the main reasons u.s. moved from indentured servitude to slavery.

sorry i meant bacons

I chose Jewish and Japanese Americans for 5. I completely made up the Jewish part. I said they were upset at events in Europe, tried to raise awareness and US, and even held Jewish-European refugees inside of their homes.

Completely BS, but whatevvv.

morganrichman–I definitely included Bacon’s rebellion to start off my paper and then I went into the ban on slaves after 1807/8… I’m a little worried to see the results in July. I felt as if I did well, but who knows.

^^For 5 I wrote about the African Americans and the Japanese (the only two I actually remember discussing in class).

I couldn’t think of like anything to put for “Jewish Americans” so I chose african americans instead… and BSed a huge paragraph about it. My friend said she put that the was a second Great Migration as the blacks went the the North for industry/service related jobs. And Japanese part was easy to write about (the camps).

I really really BSed the DBQ though.

^LOL giftedgothic.

Do you have to use every document in your DBQ?
