The official 2009 APUSH after exam discussion thread

i omitted 18 questions on the APUSH multiple choice because i wasnt 100 percent sure on them. I think i got nearly all of the rest of the 80 questions that i did answer right… but i was asking around and most of my classmates omitted 5-10 questions. is it bad that i omitted that many? i didnt know what the recomended number for omitting was but i also didnt want to get points off where i could get no points off.

@RedCatharsis

Thanks. But is that like barely a 4? I’m like freaking out about this. I wouldn’t feel so bad if I answered more MC.

@apryleve
I omitted 30. Not purposely, it just happened. I think you’re fine.

kite - you definitely have a shot at 4. MAYBE a 5 even. i’m not sure how they calculate the score though so i can’t say for sure.

and be careful about discussing specific subjects in the test because the ETS is out to get youuuuu! haha. i’m itching to answer though because i know what they are :(

i was so excited when i saw the frq’s, i was like, I CAN HANDLE THIS! but another thing is… i noticed that when i rush, i make awful spelling errors that i probably didn’t proofread completely.

just wondering did any of you guys write then crossed out “Sparta/why so serious” on the exams? LOL I’m curious how many people actually did this.

It’s true. I can get multiple witnesses, and, somebody else confirmed that they wrote 7 pages too.

I mean honestly, if I said something like 10 or 11 then it’s really unlikely, but 7 isn’t all that amazing if you write continuously for all the allotted writing time.

I prepared all 15 minutes for EVERY essay, including the FRQ, so I wrote straight for that entire period.

My hand wanted to fall off towards the end…and my elbow throbbed…

Like I said, that’s be a solid 4 if you get all 4-6 on essays I think and get no MC wrong. If you get MC wrong you’ll need 5-7 on the essays. If you have stuff above a 7 on ALL essays even with 50 MC, you’d get a 5. :)

But if you get some MC wrong (like say 10) then you need above 8 to get a 5.

So I think you’re still in a strong running for a 5 as long as if the 50-ish questions you answered were right? Or mostly right.

You can used this to calculate a predicted score: [AP US History Review Pack Score Predictor & Generator](http://www.4dog.netfirms.com/score.htm)
I don’t think that accounts for the curve though.

My thing with the essays, was that I spent the first 20 minutes planning all of them, including the 15 mins they have for the DBQ.

I thought the MC was pretty easy, possibly a little harder than previous tests I’ve taken. I’m sure I missed <10. DBQ I did terribly on, I just had no idea how to explain my thoughts… I still don’t really know how to write a US DBQ. Hopefully I got a 5 at least on it. For FRQs, I picked 3 & 5, I thought 3 was much easier than 2, but everyone I talked to picked 2. 5 was pretty easy, but I talked about A. Phillip Randolph’s proposed march on Washington, even though that was a few months before the war started. I hope they don’t count off for that.

I got a 4 for sure, 5 most likely.

I didnt get some question about “freedom , and propert rights” it was about 3 or 4 to last question on the MC. I narrowed to socialism or communism.

How many questions do you guys think we’ll actually be able to get wrong (I’m not talking about omits necessarily, just wrong) and still get a 5? I’ve heard you can get like a 60/80, but what do you guys think?

I did numbers 2 and 5 also. Is it bad that I did #5 first as long as I circled the right essay numbers at top?

i think the people who thought the mc was easy got form R or whatever… cuz form q was EXTREMELY HARD

I got the question with the graph going down wrong–first i put down carter, then tet offensive. I wasn’t aware of the penalty for guessing wrong. Maybe I just should have left them blannk? Or is it the other way around?

i only wrote a short thank you note for the readers :)

oh yeah, after the test i had to go straight to bio and guess what we did. WE WROTE 4 FRQS. @^#%$!^%@#$

i was like- KILL ME.

It was my APUSH teacher’s recommendation that if you can eliminate two choices, you should guess on a question. Apparently the probability works in your favor that way. (I’m not a math person; don’t ask me why.) He also told us that you should omit no less than 8 and no more than 12. Again, probability.

I personally omitted 11, five of which I was totally clueless on, the other six I was very iffy and unsure of what to eliminate. The rest I felt I could answer or take an educated guess on.

I picked 2 and 4 too! Even though my teacher warned us about number 5 a million times.

They did a lot of Sparta last year, and at the AP conference, the leaders actually told AP teachers that a lot of graders were upset at the “THIS IS SPARTA,” but nobody could take points off for it.

See, they’re assuming that you’ll get like a 5-7 out of 9 on the DBQ to get a 5.

But what if you’re a solid write and you are actually in the 7-9 range? Then you don’t need to get that many MC right at all!

Don’t allow for their predictions to make you afraid  Don’t underestimate yourself!

Try republicanism? I’m not certain, ask around a bit more :)

Remember that socialism and communism both are more for a collective ownership of things, if not a literal interpretation of that.

Btw the MC was easy, IMO. I finished with 10 mins remaining b/c I was scared that Id run out of time. I spent too much time on my DBQ and my FRQs were rushed through.

i omitted 18 questions on the APUSH multiple choice because i wasnt 100 percent sure on them.
posting this again… i’m freaking out about if this was too many to omit and if it was a good decision and my odds of getting a 4 or 5

^^ Crap. I put down socialism. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.

Now I feel really dumb because I definitely had forum R.
