The Official 2011 PSAT Discussion

Thank you :)!

Freshman

230+ (in junior year)
220+ (in freshman year)

Practice Practice Practice (oh yes, and Vocab too!)

My school makes all the Freshman/Sophomore/Juniors take the PSAT in October.
I got time for the merit thing though. :)

Junior, 220+ and going for NMSF/NMF. So far I’ve done a ton of practice and I plan on continuing that.

Junior.

Trying for National Merit Scholar, but since I’m in MD that’s going to be very, very tough. My goal is at least 225. I got 212 last year without prep, so I think I have a decent shot.

I’m studying for the PSAT by studying for the SAT, which I’ll be taking in November. I’m going to do practice tests on weekends, at least one per weekend. I’ve prepped over the summer by reading some prep books (Barron’s 2400, some of PR, and some of McGraw Hill) but I have yet to do any full-length practice tests.

I did not know that, but thanks for making me even more nervous. Ack!

Junior!
Shooting for a 240, but I am PERFECTLY fine with a 220+. As long as I get semifinalist.
I’m doing BB SAT tests, and some Barron’s thrown in.

Junior

Aiming for National Merit Commended Scholar

Reading Silverturtle’s SAT guide, Barron’s PSAT guide, Princeton’s SAT guide, the Blue Book, and assorted SAT vocabulary guides.
Besides doing almost daily practice tests, what else should I be doing?

Yes because I’m trying to learn 400 words in these remaining 6 weeks.

Junior: 236+ (I got 223 as sophomore last year w/ no prep) ; indirectly by studying for SAT that I’m taking 2 weeks b4 PSAT. I’m really just doing it to break 2360+ on the SAT. Luckily the cutoff in my state is <210 :D

Sophomore. Base SAT score is 1970-2060 so I am hoping for a 205+… haven’t really done much prep as I am focusing more on Bio SATs.

Didn’t know the date was that close!
Junior (Sophmore: 203)

Goal: 224+
NMS and National Achievement Scholarship (finalist)

Princeton Review 2007

Junior
Goal: 210+ (even if I miss my cutoff and get that score I’d be happy)
Semifinalist/finalist
That’s a bunch of days

I’m going to be using the “study effectively” method. I’m going to learn concepts and do practice questions in my weakest area then taking a practice test timed only doing that section. Score and analyze results. Then repeat until in the 700+ range in each area.

Parallel:

Same here! My score is around there and I’ve been prepping for AP D:

Gosh. High school is so fun ;D

Junior.
Last year I took it and got a 176 but this year I am aiming for at least a 210. I’ve done about 17 practice tests, but there’s still time for more!
I don’t really know why I’m focusing so much on this since I don’t qualify for anything :\ I suppose I just want a better score report for my portfolio haha.

Junior, aiming for nmf. I scored crappy last year without any prep and without a way to time sections correctly (185 :(). 220 will suffice.

Do you guys think thy studying for math sat 2 using Barron’s will be good for the math PSAT section?

@littlelulu - what do you mean you don’t qualify for anything? You can still qualify for NSMF/NMF…

Junior
Goal = 225+, since cutoff for CA is like 221 :expressionless:
Semifinalist
39 seems like a lot actually :P

Soph

Goal: 230

Using vocabs books and BB.

^ yup Cali’s cutoff ranges are the worst lol

So is New Jeresy. It’s like 223 D:

yeah, coastal states have pretty high cutoffs…wish I lived in like North Dakota

jk, no way I’m living in that ****hole lmao

Connecticut’s is 219 -__- thats pretty tough

Junior, got 220 last year without prep (my state’s cutoff is ~213) so I just want to repeat that performance and I’ll be happy.
