Luckystar: of course, with applications to other schools, you should wait to see which accept you and what financial aid is offerred. Could be that you are offered a full-tuition scholarship at other schools that you found more to your liking. What a pleasant dilemma to be in!

As far as Brandeis itself is concerned, it is quite good in physical and biological sciences, and I believe also in history. Don't know about math specifically. We found the food to be all right, with quite a good selection. As for the admissions policy, if i were you I wouldn't spend any time at all trying to figure it out. First of all, it's impossible for an outsider to figure out just what most selective schools are up to when it comes to individual cases. Second, for you it's no longer a factor. Once you are admitted and accept, you will have nothing further to do with the admissions office (unless you decide to apply to work there).

You will find that there are quite a large number of strong and serious students at Brandeis, many of whom will go on to graduate or professional schools.

My advice to you is that if you have several god choices, make a few visits in April. Try to include Brandeis; then see what you decide.

I agree about coming to visit in April, especially coming for the spring open house for admitted students. On paper, Ivies and other schools may look better to you, but once you visit you'll find Brandeis is full of intelligent, serious students that aren't as pretentious as the people at the other schools. Personally, I chose Brandeis over Columbia for that reason. Many of my friends chose it over schools like Cornell, Williams, Tufts, and Penn because it was much more welcoming and a better fit. So, you see, the student body is filled with Ivy-caliber students. Spring open house really allowed me to see this as well as the laid back, social side of Brandeis. I strongly reccommend going.

Accepted Blue Ribbon for Mid-year. My stats were pretty low compared to all of yours, though. But I visited twice and sat in on classes this fall, which indicates a lot of interest considering I'm from Seattle. I also had a very good essay, and I don't mean to brag but people started crying when they read it. I think I just come from a really different background than a lot of people and that was attractive. I am very excited to go as Brandeis is by far my top choice.

Well, my house is a sufi meditation center and we also rent out rooms on our second floor, so my essay was basically about all the different people who I've grown up with and how they shaped me and my moral character.

My stats were:
3.3 GPA
1350 SATs
730 wr. 700 lit. SAT IIs
4 in English AP
10 years of choir including an Eastern European Tour and a CD
Lots of school clubs and community service
Great recommendations, essay, and lots of expressed interest and also coming from the top school in Washington. My grades also showed a definite upward trend throughout highschool. In my interview I talked about how I do better in classes I like, which definitely shows in my transcript, and I know I made an impression on the admissions officer.

I think Brandeis is really into EC's - I was accepted last year with a 28 ACT, 3.5 UW GPA w/ hardest courseload available at my school, good essays, great recs, and outstanding ECs. My numbers weren't fantastic, but I think my personality and involvement in outside activities gave me a real boost. However, competition this year seems incredibly stiff and I don't know if I would have made the cut had I applied this season. Congrats to all, it's a great place (just wasn't meant to be for me!)

Like Wikedwildthang, significant money from Brandeis makes me happy to say "no thanks" to the WashU waitlist. I've been accepted at several other school and am waiting to hear from the rest tonight--but I'm 99% sure that I'll be at 'Deis.

The more I've learned about Brandeis, the more I admire it. It would be hard to match the great bio and other science departments and committment to social and global issues.

never got the initial admission decision letter. so i called them, they told me they would resend it. never got that one either. instead, got an email. short little thing that basically read, sorry, we can't offer you admission.
gee thanks. i can't even get a real letter.

Poor Chickenlegs! That's a lousy way of getting a rejection letter. I guess most of us are dealing with rejection of some sort or another.

I'm glad that you already had several really good options with good money! Although GW's campus is more urban than ivy-covered, DC is a really good place. I live in Virginia--not too far from DC. Let us know where you decide to go. With a name like Chickenlegs, you're gonna be happy wherever you roost.

About the crazy Interview:
Wow meeting one crazy alum totally warrants widesweeping generalizations. My interview was with a normal and fascinating woman who wasn't like the one you refrence at all.

Just curious if you don't attend or plan on attending brandeis why waste time posting on the message board?

finally someone POLITELY telling me to get lost lol (and sivitz registered just for that!)
the guy i knew graduated in 2003 so my info is pretty recent... and as for the interview one guy does not represent the whole school but then again this was my only official contact with the school and the person they chose to represent them so it does have some importance.
the reason iinfrequently post here is cause i applied to brandeis and got in.. and also i feel i can contribute some info/opinion about the school be it good or bad .. although looks like most people hear dont want to hear anything bad (btw go look in all the other forum theres always a thread "whats bad about this or that school") ... so i guess you can go on thinking brandeis is paradise...
