@YoungThriver thanks! congrats on andover(?) if i remember correctly?
@marcellasne Yes, thank you!
Just a passing question: do you think bringing my Penny Board to Exeter is worth it? Will it be of much use?
@ImWaisian don’t actually give my advice that much weight bc idk anything, but at exeter i saw a lot of kids w bikes so why not pennyboards? + they don’t take up a lot of space so there’s really nothing to lose
@marcellasne That’s what I was thinking, but I didn’t want to just have it be left there all the time…
@ImWaisian even if you don’t get to use it during school hours, you could still pull it out during weekends and mess around (unless pea has a random skateboarding/pennyboarding ban)
@marcellasne I might be too busy sleeping for that??
I brought my board to BS (and college) and use it daily. Exeter, and most schools. likely have restrictions onwhere you can use it.But it’s small enough to take up no room. If you use it now, you’ll likely use it next year.
@ImWaisian From what I was told during my tour, Exeter did have some recent problems with kids skating through the city and crosswalks which angered admin and drivers, but I think Exeter admin has been a little on edge since the whole principle change, MLK debacle, and grill closing. Thats just what I’ve heard from students Ik who go there so I wouldn’t put too much weight on it, but I think you’ll be fine if you bring a penny board. Ik I’ll be bringing mine to LC.
@CC4life What was the MLK debacle?
I want the student portal and dorm selection sheets. Ugh!
Oh my.
While I agree that what the speaker did is very awful, especially as an adult who is supposed to be educating children, that article seems to be a bit biased—not denying any of the facts in it, or anything about the situation, I just don’t think the wording is as “moderate” as the author suggests.
@CavsFans2003 I totally agree. I’ve read a few articles written by “right-leaning” individuals so I immediately picked up on what the author’s political views might be, based off of the words and phrases he chose for this article.
The website is dubbed “factsoverfeelings.org” for god’s sake.
While account on what occurred is factually true, that article isn’t what I’d consider to be “neutral”.
Unfortunately, it is the only article (or one of the very few) to be found about this whole incident.
@CavsFan2003 @YoungThriver I agree, but nevertheless, I believe it was probably one of the several variables that led to the Principal change from MacFarlane to Rawson, but I believe that has been debated numerous times on this thread so I guess I’ll just leave it at that. I did hear from several students who were there during the actual lecture that it was REALLY REALLY shocking.
Any good fictional books about boarding school people recommend?
Prep!
@misslilbookworm - It’s not a book, but if you haven’t seen it yet, you might want to watch Dead Poet’s Society, as you’re going to SAS. It was shot on SAS’s campus (and it’s a movie I personally enjoyed immensely).
A Separate Peace, Looking for Alaska, Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality.
