As we anxiously wait for March 10...

For most of us CCers here in the prep school forum, the 2 months between the application deadline and decisions are pure psychological torture. So as we await the formidable date (haha that rhymes :)) let us use this post or whatever it is to just share whatever we'd like about prep schools and the application process. Make it fun!

In addition, as the essay-writing season ceases, I'd like to say a few words of "wisdom" --so to speak:

There's no denying it, prep school essays were stressful! But the process itself is an experience on its own. I'm sure we all learned something from this essay writing ordeal. Whether it be realizing what a procrastinator you are (like me), discovering how awkward you are during interviews, we all learned something different from this experience. But as a whole community, we all learned something similar. We discovered more about ourselves. All the admission questions forced us to ponder who we truly are. I know I discovered what my dream job is from the Deerfield essay.

thank you, CC prep school community, for helping me through this turning point of a journey. Best of luck to my fellow applicants and I wish you all the best on your future endeavors.
I just realized how much this sounds like I'm saying goodbye... NO we still have 2 months and hopefully a summer left!

My advice to everyone is don’t spend too much time thinking about it. It will be here before you know it. I know there are many great expectations by many young minds but do not let your acceptance or rejection define who you are. A great man had many failures- 1832 Lost job, defeated for state legislature, 1833 failed in business, 1835 Sweetheart dies, 1836 had a nervous breakdown, 1843 defeated for nomination to Congress, 1846 elected to congress only to lose his seat 2 years later in 1848, 1849 defeated for land officer, 1854 defeated for US Senate, 1856 defeated for nomination to Vice President, 1858 defeated for US Senate. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860 and he is considered to be one of the greatest Presidents. SO keep it all in perspective and everything will work out.

Here’s what I hope for M10 2014…for everyone who’s been on the forum this cycle to accurately report their results. Meaning, “How’d your particular strategy/candidacy work out?”

Over the past few application cycles, I’ve seen very vocal posters go dead silent after M10…without an update on what their results were. While it may embarrassing (but really, why would it be given the relative anonymity of the forum?) for some, I think accurately reporting results helps future applicants get a better understanding about what kinds of kids were admitted, waitlisted, and rejected.

For example, will the “Perfect package except for SSAT” lead to acceptance at super-selective schools? Does the “Wide Net” strategy work for those who tried it? Etc.

We have a great local day school backup should 7D2 get nothing but skinny envelopes or “We’re sorry, but…” emails on M10. So regardless of the decisions she receives, I know my younger girl will be fine.

I wish success and tranquility for all applicants and their families.

Keep in mind how helpful it was to read previous years’ applicants application profiles. Soon, before you know it, there will you a new wave of applicants who look to you for advice and assistance. Remember this site is ANONYMOUS (unless you tell people who you are) and posting your results -whether they’re waitlists, acceptances, or rejections- will do you no harm

Swimmergirl3,

I totally agree! I’ve experienced much hardship from the admission process. I feel that college apps will be a breeze! I too am a procrastinator, so I uploaded all of my essays yesterday. The beginning of the year I spent majority of my time on SSAT scores. My heart is thumping after submitting my application.
Funerary is going to be so painful! Not to mention March. I feel that I delivered my best in my essays. Hopefully the schools agree.

I will be sure to upload my results on CC. Even if they’re not the happiest results.

@rareparadox If “Funerary” was a joke, I like it! If it was a typo, I didn’t notice anything…

@SevenDad I agree! Please don’t just disappear if you get less than favorable results.

@stargirl3

Hahahah! Funerary. I must be naturally funny to turn a typo into a joke.

Like 7Dad’s daughter, I also applied to a very prestigious day school nearby. However, I wouldn’t necessarily be happy attending there either. When I visited the school the kids weren’t exactly welcoming.

Now attending my current public school would be a nightmare. Me being the idiotic bigmouth I am already told everyone I know that I’m applying to boarding schools for high school.

At least I know my parents won’t be disappointed if I don’t get accepted into any of my schools. Since my SSAT score was above my top school’s average they said they won’t be sad.

@stargirl3: Oh don’t worry…I will probably be relatively active on the forum until my daughters graduate from HS, which isn’t until 2018! And regarding my younger daughter’s M10 results, I may not list the schools publicly (as I have a bit less anonymity than most here), but I will share the decisions she receives.

@rareparadox funny thing is I submitted one of my applications TODAY… oops

good luck to everyone

@rareparadx and others, I hope to hear good news from all of you. Best of luck!!

WE should play a game  something school related. I don’t know… anything to get our minds off m10 and calm our nerves.
Any suggestions?

Check out my thread called “GoldenRatio, loveyoutoo, and stargirl3.” It should be a fun read.

I’ve heard that boarding schools are VERY exclusive and preppy. I hope that isn’t true I’d feel even more excluded than already. When I visited one of my schools they seemed very welcoming.

I have the busiest week next week. A midterm that lasts 2 days, 2 science tests, an American History project due, an American History test, a math quiz, and an architectural model due.

like all schools, boarding schools will have a number of cliques and exclusive groups. But there are plenty of people out there that are more than happy to make friends with you. one group of people does not represent the entire student body.
I have a busy week too! I have a 2 day midterm, English book report visual, English timed writing assignment worth a crapload of points, SS paper on the Palestine-Israeli conflict. In addition to schoolwork I have 2 interviews. But at least tomorrow’s FRIDAY!!! Also tomorrow we have a former CIA operative coming in (she’s the mother of a girl in my grade)

Well, my son hasn’t even been thinking of the process, thankfully. He only applied to one school, a really great day school. But even THAT process was excruciating! He had nine essay questions, some short answer, some long. Our parent form had four pretty in-depth essay questions as well. Then doing school records and transcripts (since he’s been homeschooled all his life), test prep, the tests themselves, chasing after co-op teachers for recommendations and progress reports, etc… WHEW! I feel like it’s been a part-time job! So the first thing we’ll be doing is just relaxing. He retook the SSAT on Jan 4 and did great - 91 overall, which is what we were hoping for, something in the 90s - and now, we wait and wait and wait. He would need close to full FA, so it’s a LONG shot, but we’re hopeful :)

Well, I am waiting for the infamous “M10”; not only for the admission results, but for a big solo night. I am working on the finishing touch on the beautiful Arioso (Bach) on oboe. Not saying I play beautifully. I have worked on it for a while.

bump anyone else comment

Check out my poem in the main prep school forum!

I’m probably going to stay up all night on March 9…haha.

Oh man, school on M10 will be unbearable.
