late but im in 9th applying to 10th, it’s my first time. my parents used to live in MA so we knew about bs but we didnt really bother looking into it, plus we couldn’t afford it. last year one of my close friends got into andover w full aid so i decided to actually research it and here we are!
@Heading2HS, I’m not sure if that’s accurate. I have read in many places that more people will actually get accepted that rejected, at least at Choate. And anyway, everyone’s chances are different based on their application. We shouldn’t really “expect” anything.
@CC4Life & @Heading2HS - it’s like a yearly mental judo competition of stats…this pre-March 10th sparing of statistics. I think the yield stats are more interesting- maybe you all will find that also after this weekend.
FWIW some of those stats may be off and not reported accurately in Review sites. Some have higher and some have lower…I attended two meetings last week for 2 schools ( one Co-ed) and both reported lower acceptance rates than what had been published online rather than by school. Some stats on review sites are from a few years ago. For example, last year (per the AD) one of those schools listed actually had an 11% acceptance rate. In both meetings we heard that AC’s are building a class, not just compiling student stats. Don’t take this personally- one mantra that rings true over time on CC is that most kids do get the school with a good fit and things do turn out for the best…maybe not evident until a year from now, but it will all be ok. Breathe!!
I have to confess that I feel the pressure is building up, no kidding, really bad.
The only thing I find comforting is to go back and read kid’s many essays and re-read my own letters to schools. Basically, taking the focus off the schools and admission decisions and focus on what matters to me; my student. That’s all this is about. It is very likely that I will be mad and disappointed at many schools this weekend, but I know it will be their loss, 10 years from now, he will be fine, and it will be for the best.
Statistics is, as the term said, a statistics. It is more accurate in its totality but often won’t stand up to individual cases, however accurate the statistics is/are.
So yes for an average applicant he/she can expect 1 admission, 6 waitlists, and so on. ^:)^
I am so nervousss…
same ahhhh
Kent just emailed to change the notification date to March 8. I’m suddenly so nervous
Lucky! Less wait!
Anyone else planning to stay up Friday night to wait for Taft decisions at midnight?
Anyone applying for the 11th grade?
This is completely irrelevant but I just lost my phone at school!
Captain Marvel is out on 3/8!
I’m going to a birthday party/sleepover. Get home at 9 Saturday morning, have breakfast with my parents and check the results.
@baronofunk I’m waiting for Avengers Endgame. Side question: have you been watching Dragon Prince on Netflix?
HERE IT IS JUST FOR YOU APPLICANTS - Class of 2023 and above. In keeping of the tradition I started last year, I am sending you kiddies my version of the “Night Before Christmas” for the Freakout Thread 2019!
Poem for the Freakout Thread
‘Twas the week before March 10th
And all through this thread
Not a “Poster” was sleeping -
Decisions to dread!
The applications were submitted
Essays filed away -
Even this “Freak Out” thread can’t keep anxiety at bay!
Thanks @sunnyschool, @buuzn03, @Center and @GoatMama - you’re the best!
Your advice is well taken to “give it a rest”
To all the wise parents and students on this site,
I can’t help but worry, try as I might!
Now UPS, FedEx and web tracking are set -
Relief that SSS updates and tax facts are met!
With Mom having a night cap and Dad hiding in his cave,
It’s the dream of acceptance, not junk food, I crave!
March 10th is soon coming, I admit I feel blue
What decisions are pending? I have NOT a clue!
Thanks to all on CC as I prepare for dejection -
Please be there for each other in case of rejection!
:)>-
My mind still isn’t processing that we find out the decisions in 3 days (and 14 hours). I can’t believe the day I have literally been dreaming about is THIS SATURDAY!!
Thanks @Golfgr8 for reposting the poem! Brings a much appreciated levity to a stressful week.
That’s a great poem!
I can’t believe it’s March. After waiting for so long, I can’t believe it’s almost over. Saturday isn’t going to feel real
