Has anyone gotten a package from choate yet?
@livelaughxc i got socks:)
@livelaughxc I got my folder but no loot!
I’m reminded of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
I saw Choate was sending out socks, lol. It was on their Instagram.
I’ve just heard the best comment that I’ve recieved about attending boarding school: “So, why are you leaving us to go to a camp?”
Me: AHAHAH it’s not camp! I love school, and yes, I hope it will be amazing, and that I will have a good time. It’s also school! I’m going to be taking tests and writing essays just as I do here. It’s not always going to be fun and games.
Someone else asked me (adult) what disciplinary trouble I had gotten myself into that was bad enough that I needed to be sent away
Unfortunately this will probably not be the first or last time that you will hear those types of questions and comments. As I just wrote on a thread in the parents page, I’ve been dealing with those questions and comments for years as both a BS alumna and now a BS parent.
@misslilbookworm that happened to me too!
My family has turned into a little game in order to ease the annoyingness of the comments: Whoever hears the most shocking one wins.
Don’t know if this is a good way of coping with it - but it works and provides amusement.
@misslilbookworm we’ve heard them all…even some from family members. No one around us goes to BS, and even the local private schools aren’t that common. Several CC posters have great stories of their brilliant responses to these asinine remarks!
Exeter revisit= March 28th
Andover revisit= April 5th
Am I going to see anybody?
I’m going to the SAS visit back on April 2nd
Revisiting Loomis on April 5th, am I going to see @CC4life?
(and St. Mark’s on April 2nd)
@sparkatzz You definitely will :))
people always either say “boarding school? your parents must really hate you” or “have fun in nerd town”
@ffsophiar Kids say the same to me—“Jeez, what’d you do?”
:neutral:
Questions my kiddo received during a sports camp, the summer before leaving for boarding school:
Coach: Where’s everyone going to high school?
Kiddo: I’m going to a high school out of the State.
Coach: Where?
Kiddo: In Massachusetts.
Coach: Is your family moving?
Kiddo: No, it’s just me going to school there.
Confused Coach: Is it a military school?
Kiddo: No, its a boarding school.
Still Confused Coach: Are your parents making you go?
Kiddo: No, I want to go.
Really Confused Coach: OK, let’s do a drill.
i feel really bad for those of yall who get such negative responses to boarding school! i’m in north carolina, so essentially nobody knows about NE BS, but we have ncssm which is held in high regard. most of my friends and teachers were super supportive and thought it was great. some my friends even want to apply now, but i don’t know if they’ll actually follow through lol. given, the only people who know are a few close friends (but one of the people in that circle is already in andover) and the teachers who know are just the ones who wrote recommendations.
i mean i got the whole “what the heck did you do” thing when i told my teachers who were writing my recs my plan to apply for bs, but like my friends didn’t really care? they were supportive and all, but yea not much else. i convinced one of my close friends in october-ish to apply, but other than that, some of my other friends who just recently found out want to apply
