Has anybody ever heard of a school with a 90% yeild?
PA had and 86% yield two years ago when my kiddo was admitted. That’s the highest I’ve heard.
Actually, let me rephrase my question: is it possible for a school to have a 90% yeild rate? And if so, what requirements must be met?
I’ve never heard of a 90% yield rate for any boarding school or college. For example, Harvard had the highest yield of any college or university for the 2017-18 year, with a yield of 82.8%. A 90% yield suggests that the school is the first (or possibly only) choice for 9 out of every 10 admitted applicants, and that the option was financially viable enough for those admitted student to say yes to the offer. As students apply to multiple schools, receive their admissions decisions on the same or about the same day, have an opportunity to revisit schools and sit in actual classes at revisit days, and often have more than one good offer (potentially with different levels of financial aid), obtaining a 90% yield sounds near impossible. I think the only way you get there is if a school has an attribute that sets its apart from its likely competitors (e.g., physically located away from its competition, has a special program, etc.) and the school goes out of its way to select only students that they feel are certain will accept due to its special characteristics. I suppose they could also focus heavily on students who make clear that a school is a “first choice,” but first choices change, but, as is clear from many posts on this board, no one enjoys identifying a first choice before knowing what options are actually available. It probably good that there are no schools with 90%+ yield. There is no perfect school, and a school is not necessarily the best school option for every admitted applicant. It’s good that admitted students make decisions based on how they feel when they visit; they have to live it.
I believe that Milton Academy has a 89% yield for their lower school (K-8), but I don’t know if that really counts because I have heard that their high school/boarding section has a yield in the 60s (I assume this is higher for day students).
@CaliPops Thank you! That was just the type of extensive and thoughtful answer I was looking for.
Not quite the highest.
Which basically summarizes the military academies, and even then the yield for USMA/USNA/USAFA are “only” in the high 80’s
@skieurope - Agreed. My comment was based on a US News ranking, which considered only what it classifies as national universities.
Anyone know how difficult it is to get into sailing? I really want to sail.
@CavsFan2003 Do you mean crew or actually sailing ?
@YoungThriver Actual sailing, but also rowing lol
@CavsFan2003 That’s actually pretty cool. It might be hard to get into if it’s a super popular activity.
Also I’m SO nervous my contract won’t make it in time… I mailed it on Saturday.
Don’t be nervous.
@CavsFan2003 Was it possible to do it electronically? For Andover, we were given both options- by mail or email (online enrollment).
We told them in person that I was going to attend and that the contract was on the way.
@YoungThriver No, Choate had an online payment (which we did) and an online intent to enroll form, but the actual contract had to be mailed
@CavsFan2003 don’t stress, if you already did the intent form and payment you’re fine.
in other news, i committed to deerfield today!! everything feels so unreal, i feel like it was only yesterday that i was stressing over boarding school applications.
@marcellasne Congrats! While I am now forced to dislike Deerfield (Choate crowd now LOL), it’s an awesome school and you’ll love it!
@CavsFan2003 yeah we’re now obligated to hate each other lmaoo but it’d be so wack if we saw each other at a sporting event or something
