Congrats!

Hey I wanted to just ask if it is possible to switch from boarding to day student? I’m almost 99% sure it’s not, because they accepted me bc they were looking for a boarder, and had I applied day things may have turned out different. I’m now realizing I could save my parents quite a lot of money if I do day so I was just wondering. I live 40~ mins away from Loomis, don’t know if that’s enough to be boarding or day.

I used to live about 35 minutes away from my old school and it wasn’t really a problem until it came to extracurriculars. School would end at 1:20 and I would have practice at 4 pm. Everyone would go home and I really wanted to but traveling that far was a hurdle plus expensive (gas). For some of the schools, I looked at it said you could only change your status due to “extraordinary” circumstances.

My mother told me that a friend of hers had a daughter who changed to day student this year. Which makes sense, because this year had covid so it’s an extraordinary circumstance. Don’t think covid will be too dominant by the time I go, and besides like you said, gas prices may be extremely high. Don’t wanna have the inconvenience of ec’s too. Thanks for the insights!

It probably wouldn’t be too smart unless you wanted to get home from like 7pm - 9pm. My Andover interviewer was a day alum so he told me about the life of a day student. See if your parents would be willing to pick you up daily. It shouldn’t be too hard to switch. It just means there’s an extra bed for a WL student.

Ok thank you! Just asked. They didn’t seem too excited about driving 80 mins a day to pick me up drive me home :joy: I think I’ll stay a boarder. Thanks!

I know right!

Have you guys started doing your placement tests and choosing fall sports?

This might just be Westover but I got all of my forms on April 10th!!! As a drawback, a lot of the academic and extracurricular forms are due super early in May.

I’ve been going at them recently and after a few emails I’ve found out that I get to skip Latin III and the first year of WISE classes because of my previous work!! I’m so ridiculously excited for the fall and to be able to take classes with people in my grade (and probably older!!!) and not feel behind (even though I know that I wouldn’t have felt behind anyways, just an irrational feeling)

Idk everything just feels right right now. I feel like even if I didnt have much of a choice, that this path is one that’ll work out.

I’m kinda sad about leaving my old school though. I cried the other day while writing a thank you note to my English teacher and I’m slowly realizing that I won’t see my friends anymore since I only really see them at school (we all live in different towns)

It is highly unlikely the school would let you. This year I know someone who was offered a spot off the waitlist only if they would board, since the school was already fully enrolled for day students. Most schools made an exception this year because of COVID.
