The test is around a month away, so I just decided to created this thread. I know it's a bit early, but how are you guys preparing in the last month?

I’m doing the hardest problems from Barrons, and doing Trig review because I’m still having some trouble with that.

I’ll probably take a couple more practice tests from Barron’s and two from the CB book. I’ve already taken 2 from Barron’s and gotten 740-750, so based on what I’ve heard about Barron’s, I should be set for an 800.

Just took another Barron’s practice test and got an 800. So happy right now!!!

Wow elf4EVA, nice o.o; Don’t even worry too much for the test, you’re gonna be totally fine :3 just keep up the good work!

@Aquawater Awww, thanks! I guess I won’t be studying for this again until 2 days before. I think buying the blue book along with Barron’s was a total waste of money, because I haven’t even touched BB yet (and probably won’t need to).

Yeah, usually just going w/ Barron’s is fine. I would still say take a practice test every 2 weeks or so xD Just do all of the practice tests in Barron’s, they tell you lots of different, interesting ways to solve problems.

What was your raw score?

Oh and just a note: The first 35-40 questions on the test are insanely easy, but the last 10-15 get harder. The last 10 especially. But if you can do the difficult problems on Barron’s w/out any problem, you should be fine :]

I’m taking it! Got a 700 on my first Barrons test, but just took a second one and got 630 I’ll be spending tomorrow learning a lot of the techniques I’ll need, and taking a practice test every weekend until the test. Hopefully I’ll be up to around 750 on the Barrons by test time so I can get an 800 on the real test.

@Aquawater My raw scores were . . . (I’m searching for them): 41 (750), 39 (740), and 44 (barely an 800, but still an 800!). On the last one, I left every single probability question blank because I couldn’t remember how to do any of them (my Honors Algebra 2 teacher last year spent only two days going over this stuff :(). I’ll probably take a couple more Barron’s tests, plus the CB tests a week or two before. I just hope I don’t make any random careless errors on the real test (I’m prone to these). And yeah, I pretty much breezed through the first 30-35 problems in Barron’s, then took half an hour to answer the rest of them…

@Aquawater @elf4EVA So guys what is the best plan and tips to prepare for the test ? I’m taking the test in November

Hey, I’m taking this test in October too!

I only got, like, a 720 when I took the first Barron’s practice test, which worries me. I’ll need to spend some time working on the material, since a 750+ is all but vital.

Just remember guys, don’t become overconfident because you were doing well on Barrons. Back in June, when I took it, I pulled a 790 on Barrons, so I figured the test would be a joke. Well it was, but I wasn’t careful enough, and didn’t check my answers, so I ended up getting a 730 even though I easily could have pulled a 800. Just a warning to all of you: no matter how well you’re doing on practices, don’t become too confidential on the real test. Else you’ll have to retake it with me.

@elf4EVA yeah, then I would suggest looking up some probability lessons online. You wanna try to cover up all of your weak spots. logicx24 is right, overconfidence will kill you. Better safe than sorry :]

@amremara go get Barron’s or PR and do a practice test every week. Also, when you correct tests, make sure you understand why you got it wrong. I usually write down my mistakes so that I can review them daily or weekly. You also wanna minimize as many careless errors as you can. Practice will help that. Oh! Look up some programs you can program into your calculator so that you can save time on the test.

@Aquawater Thanks! Will do.

@amremara I completely agree with what Aquawater said. Also, even if you got a problem correct, read the answer explanation. Often times, review books will show a quick way of doing the problem; the SAT(II) isn’t meant to have super cumbersome problems that take a long time, so just keep in mind that there is often a shortcut to the answer. Good luck with studying! :)

Ok, well I just took another Barrons and got a 710, my best so far. I have enough tests to do one every weekend until the test, so hopefully I can get it up enough. I’m need to start reviewing and learning my weaknesses more. I actually like taking the tests, just not studying. But an 800 is crucial for me, since I’m applying as a math major.

800 on Barron’s elf? You’re set. I got two mid-600s on Barron’s and got a solid 800 on an official Math II exam.

^^^Did you study after those mid 600s? Or do you think you got lucky? Or is Barrons just that much harder?

I’m a little nervous because some of the Barron’s problems seem really hard.

Thanks guys @Aquawater @elf4EVA :)

@Aquawater Programs?! do you mean using graphing calculators ? I use scientific one. Do i essentially need a graphic calculator ?

I’m taking the test this November as well. October is sat season for me.

Anyway, scores aside, the diag showed me the areas I need most improvement in. It isn’t a lot, but I’m going to focus on the problems that I’m most confused on.

Once I hit the confidence, I will try out the tests.
