S attends Rollins and when he visited he arranged to sit in on a class and then met with the professor afterwards to answer questions about the program he was interested in as his major. This was one thing that made his decision easier. If your D knows what type of major she is interested in pursuing then contact the admissions office about arranging a class visit. Also sign up so that they will provide a lunch voucher. The food is great and they even treated our entire family of 6! Other than that take time to walk down Park Ave and if you can take the boat tours. I heard they are good. We did not do this on our visit but S has since gone on a boat tour.

hlsess: I would make sure that you visit when the kids are in class, and not on the weekend. If you go on the weekend you will not get the flavor of the campus because the kids tend to sleep in. You should try arrange with admissions to have her attend a class. Many of the classes are set around a confernce table in a very intimate setting and involve class participation. Try and have lunch at the campus center on the lake; the food is quite good. I would recommend taking the campus tour, the kids do a nice job. If she is interested in fitness make sure to tour the fitness facility is is small but well stocked and they offer all types of classes for every interest.
I would recommend walking up and down Park Blvd it is quite nice, lots of shopping, restaurants etc. If you donāt want to eat on campus go to restaurant 310 Park, it is great. There is a boat tour (which leaves from Morse ave every hour) of the area homes including a view of the Rollins campus from the water, it is very nice and cost $10 per person and is about 1 hr or less.

Thanks- we will be there on Tuesday March 16th(my birthday) I did not sign up for her to sit in a class -will check on that Monday - we have dinner reservations the night before at 310 park and will look into boat tour- we are heading to tampa after Rollins to stay with a camp friend then see Eckerd on wEdnesday- going to see Stetson on Monday but i think rollins will be our favorite!!

Just got my acceptance letter yesterday!!! Iām so excitedā¦ Iām just filled with relief and surpriseā¦ Especially since I donāt have the best stats compared to the majority of people here on CC.

Donāt come to this abyss if youāre expecting an academic oasis. I am a junior now and Iām disillusioned with the school for the most part. There are intelligent students here, but they are mostly the ones here on 3/4 to total scholarship. When a school removes its SAT requirements, the target audience of the school is quite clear. This is a playground for the children of executives. I donāt mind it, Iāve come to embrace the party scene here. But donāt expect your child to come here and be in an academic haven.

The worst part is that our administration is so two-faced. They try to eliminate the āparty-vibeā of the school by enforcing draconian alcohol policies (no alcohol allowed in a room at all if someone under 21 is there, if everyone is 21 then two beers a person, anything beyond that is an alcohol offense). I had a friend get written up for having a table out for beer pong, but no beer out. Yes, a table was considered an alcohol offense.

They do this, then spend the endowment installing a BEACH at the school. They want to send off the vibe that weāre becoming a more legitimate academic institution, then do more to foster the party stereotype they are trying to disspel. They attempt to eradicate fraternities, but bring in new sororities?

I will say the faculty here is amazing. Rollins gets a lot of big name professors from other universities who just want to retire in Winter Park. I have teachers who have taught all over the ivy league, and all over the landscape of small liberal arts colleges. You wonāt get the most of them from in class lectures since they are teaching down to the lowest common denominator most of the time. Embrace the opportunities to speak to your professors after class. Get to know them, and they will love to help you make the best of your time here. Iām in the honors program and embarking on the journey of starting my 100 page thesis this year. I wouldnāt be able to do it without the close relationships Iāve established with my professors.

In summation, donāt believe the ******** they throw at you on the tour. Youāll see pretty buildings and nice landscaping. What they donāt show you is the coke problem (yes it exists) and the party culture that envelops the student body (My weekend drinking starts tonight, on a wednesdayā¦ and I will not be in the minority by ANY stretch of the imagination). If you are not a part of the party culture, prepare to be isolated socially from the most visible people on campus.

I want to say that my son got the worst financial aid package from this school. Our EFC is not very high this year. This is the only school out of 11 financial packages, where no grants were offered to my son (not one dime), either in the form of merit or financial aid. Oh, and this was a match school. My son did get merit aid from his reach school. So, what was the point of the admit/deny? They had all of the financial info before sending out their letter of acceptance. We were offered a financial aid package which included only loans and work study.

Good luck to all of you who were accepted with merit awards and/or grants. Oh, and for the lower level merit award, we are far away and were unaware that our son had to interview. That part was our fault, but 10k without any other grants for a school that costs over 54,000 would not have mattered to us.

Heard back today 1/30. Got accepted RD with a $25,000 Deanās Scholarship and the invitation to fly down and compete for an Alfond Scholarship- full tuition, room, and board. Iāll likely participate in this scholarship competition, but am not positive since I live on the other end of the country.

Congratulations CatLady! I also got my invitation to the Alfond scholarship competition on the 30th.

Also, an update on statsā¦ 700 Spanish w/ Listening, 800 French. Only 2 APs unfortunately. Staff writer for the school paper and regular volunteer at local library. They had me apply through their āFast Appā which didnāt require any teacher recommendations or formal essay. Only a 250 personal statement but mine ended up at 750 lol!

Hope to see you at the Alfond weekend!
