All the more reason to submit early. Didn't you have high SAT scores fringey?

4 days, 16.5 hours...a little out of context but it's on all our minds

Nope... 2110. Mid-700s SAT IIs... SATs aren't my strength, that's for sure. I love how I wouldn't probably be considered for a USC merit scholarship, yet I applied early to Yale. Oops.

Oh, and I haven't won any real awards, either, except for academic society stuff. Oooops.

Hey all, Sam Jackson Yale '11 here--just saying hello.

Kowloon-- don't compare yourself that way, it will only help you to go insane, and won't do anything to help you out with Yale. Furthermore, don't forget that CC is a self-selecting bunch not really representative of the Yale pool!

As for all you hopeful '12ers... best luck to all of you, but I just wanted to stop by briefly to say try to find little ways to relax even just a little bit so that your lives are not ruined and that you don't go insane. I knew people last year whose hair was falling out in clumps. Personally, it was probably the most stressful time of my entire life. Is that good? No, and it's sad that the college admissions / marketing industry puts us in these situations. But the point is, and I don't know if this helps, but just try to stay sane by whatever means necessary and remember about the really important things in life. Don't mean to preach, just want to tell you guys to be sure to take some time off from CC (REALLY, really) and you know, get some fresh air, let your brain breathe a little.

Sadly this tumultuous time in my life was not well documented on my blog (2006 December | the Sam Jackson College Experience month of dec, 2006) because I had a lot of admissions officers reading and didn't tell anyone I had applied EA (anyone on the internets at large, that is) and so I didn't want to spoil my chances in case things with Yale didn't work out well. CC has some anthropological value there. Some of what -is- there is still some cognitive dissonance type reasoning, though, so don't take it all at face value. Anyway.... if you guys all have any questions or anything in general just let me know, preferably through my blog. If you send me a private message or something I may see it, but emails via blog are better.

OK, I have some work to do here in New Haven.

Thoughts are with you guys.

edit: Oh my god I hate what CC does to you guys!!!!! / what college admissions does, but esp. CC...

haha, i wonder what made him add the edit... perhaps he saw my "horror stories" thread.... :)

why is it i'm obsessed with putting little smileys after all my comments in this forum?? i promise i don't do this usually. :)

I don't know how to do proper smileys... I am ashamed.

Thanks for your post, Sam! You're an inspiration to all of us who have exalted Yale and all those deemed fit to grace its loverly halls.

nope, just fringey's post right above mine.

By the way, after I gave a presentation to lots of admissions officers and other types at the College Board Forum in NY at the end of October (read about it if you want - "Admissions in the Internet Age" : my College Board Forum presentation reaction | the Sam Jackson College Experience ) it became crystal clear just how afraid they are of CC too, though for different reasons--they're terrified of all the misinformation that goes around! I try to use that fear to motivate them to create new tools for us students to use...

edit: thanks fringey ;)

There is misinformation, but I think the kids who are really interested in Yale (and other schools) and who have the internet are mostly capable of getting the right 411 if they just look for it. Yale's website is great and informative... use it! I have scoured it, haha

Fringey, I think we oughta be phacebook phriends. In fact, I think all of us should all be facebook friends. Associating faces with usernames is quite refreshing.

agreeeeed I PMed you my name... I know you're just a student como yo

gosh, i hate myself for returning to cc nonstop...

this is not going to be a productive week

haha my thoughts exactly

same sentiment, more so than you razzle i think :)

hey, so what about names?? i'm curious how you all look... before i get rejected and become bitter about you all i had better get to know you!

haha why dont we all PM our names to fringey and she can make like a list or smth. otherwise it might get kinda confusing =S

there will be massive facebook funtime after EA--people will do real world meetups, etc. for definitely. you guys probably even more than my year...

just reading this thread is real fun
and nerve-wrecking at the same time
ive never felt more confused hehe

man it would be fun if we could really meet up in real life
on the yale campus hopefully lol

esp fringey
i was considering film or lit
maybe we might be able to listen to the same lectures or somat

Whoever gets accepted should form a CC club or something at Yale. ;]

We should just make a thread here and promise to meet up somewhere. Make name tags with our usernames. xD

Kay, so kind of off topic, but I just want to wish everyone good luck on Friday! <3

I'm going to stay away from this place untill Friday evening, decision time. You guys are all supremely awesome, especially on this thread--but not the best for my nerves right now... >w<

So, um, stock up on chocolate, friend support, llamas, what have you. And in 4 days--if you get in, congratulations! --if you don't, you will be happy and successful wherever you go anyway, so congratulations!!

-Apple.

thanks apple.
i'll probably stay on this site, have nightmares every night leading up to friday, gain 10 pounds from stress eating, and neglect my homework to the point where my grades will drop so low my safeties will become reaches.

you sure you wouldn't like to join me? :)
