The Official Yale Class of 2012 (Hopeful) Thread

My finals are in the second week of January. Essentially, the week we arrive back from break is dead week (the entire half of the week). I'm starting to be unable to concentrate on my work; it just kicked in today.

:(

its been going on for a while for me now

exactly what time do you think the results will be posted?
morning? afternoon?

haha yea im so excited. if i get in ill definitely take a trip down to new haven. if i dont, i'll spend my break doing apps i guess. =P

and kubric, the results will probably be posted around 5 EST since that was when they were posted the past two years.

A constant companion for these past 4 months...!(re:P&P)

Hey Everyone! Gap Year Yalie here! I know how completely, ridiculously nervous you guys all are becuase I was in the very same position last year, but (hopefully) when you get in, it's the most gratifying feeling in the world!

There is an official Facebook group for the the Yale Class of 2012 at
Facebook | Login

Best of luck to everyone! I really hope to meet some of you next year at Yale!

ugh. because of the time difference I will get the result at 11 at night.... I don't know what to do all these hours. The waiting will just drive me crazy.
I'm not sure if I will go to school that day.... I mean it would destract me but on the otherhand it could make the waiting even worse. I would like to sleep all day until 10:30pm...
I love Yale. For me it is my perfect 'happy place'.

I wish I had applied early somewhere. DX

50 more hours (approximately).

Inexorably closer it draws.

Luci, I am in your situation as well. I will receive the news at midnight. My advice id to go to school on Friday and try to focus on classes as much as you can because it distracts you. You do yourself no good if you just stay and wait. There is nothing you can do at the moment. Enjoy your day, you have plenty of time to party or to cry after it.

ARRRGGH, my interviewer for Rice just emailed me to say he wanted to meet at 3:30 this Friday (I'm in the Central Time Zone).

I'm going to be way too freaked out during it. So much for Rice as a match school.

Lol haha dang that's rough. I'm gonna be freaking scared to open mine, are people sure that a bulldog pops out and music plays? Because if they are i think i might close my eyes while the page is loading and turn up the volume and hope i hear something ;-).

This is kind of a weird question, but does anyone know exactly how the applications are evaluated? The regional admissions officer reads it first, I'm guessing, but what happens from then on? Does he/she put a preliminary accept/reject/defer vote on it and then present it to the rest of the committee? I'm just wondering...

I wish I had applied early somewhere so that I'd have something to say. =/

JSC08 from the stuff i've read that stuff seems to be accurate. Also, from a friend who got a likely letter last year and is now a frosh at Yale, he says that the regional admissions officer can usually recall students' profiles by name, so I'm sure that he/she is pretty thorough about it. And I believe that he does put an accept/reject/defer on it because the officer explained to my friend the exact reasons for his acceptance.

I (subtly) tried to be noticed by the Yale rep at my school, but about 50 kids went to the meeting, so I'm not counting on it. She did see me burn my tongue on my tea though and go AIIIEEEEE ugh DAAAMN!

First impressions. Yay.

Are the people who do the school visits the actual adcoms? Do you think that hey remember who shows up to their little information sessions and not showing up to Yale's visit would hurt one's chances?

Am I weird for thinking that interviews are a BAD thing? I had my interview about a few weeks ago with a guy who, actually, lived right down the street from me (no joke, walking distance). He was really nice and all, much better than my Duke interviewer, but for some reason I have a feeling that the interviews are just a way to make the prospects show that they are more than just what their transcripts and such say.

Oh, I forgot to say, good luck to everyone! we're only 45 hours away now, oy.

"I have a feeling that the interviews are just a way to make the prospects show that they are more than just what their transcripts and such say."

Isn't that a... good thing?

And Random Bob: yes, sometimes, and no.

GOD I AM SO CLOSE TO KNOWING!!!!! Btw, did you guys notice that Accepted, Deferred, and Rejected all have the same number of letters? Just thought I'd throw that out there...
Also, I had a point too, I would hope that they don't waste that much time (1-2 hours for over 4 thousand applicants? Plus their interviewer's time, plus the interviewers need to write a report...that's alotta work!) And a great solution to making a bad impression when an adcom visits your school, if you do something dumb, don't sign your name on those little slips of paper they give you like (are you interested in getting tons of college mail from us?) so then they never know your name ;-).

I've had a visit from Yale and it was not done by people in the admissions office but a student diplomat or representative.
