The Oxford Thread: Questions and Conversation

Well look at aid at tech I would pay 10k at Oxford I’d pay nothing at all. But I hope they call me before… If they don’t by the end of the month I’ll be at Oxford sadly… Why? This Is dumb. But I mean I rather not wait at tech pay and never be able to transfer if the waitlist does not pull through

Wait so, I if I decide to stay on emory waitlist, I give up my spot at oxford college?

I called and the emory admission office said that this is not true- they work independantly and do not now everyone who deposits at oxford and would not even have time to check if everyone is on the waitlist for emory.

^I also remember the Oxford admissions mention, while talking about yield rate, that there were a number of people each year who would not enroll at Oxford due to being accepted off the waitlist at the Atlanta campus at the last minute.

So I can still enroll at Oxford if I stay on the waiting list for Emory right?

Everyone, except Classof2015’s D’s GC, seems to say that you may. You could always call and ask.

Guys, it’s not that crucial. Don’t turn down an offer to Oxford for a probably less than 20% chance (just a guesstimate–please no stats) of being admitted to Emory main. Either way you’ll get the same degree. Oxford will make you work harder since you didn’t get into Emory.

As I said before, I’m just an incoming student. I’d encourage everyone to join the facebook site and ask questions of current students.
Aigiqinf,

What meal plan did you get?

Was I supposed to pick a meal plan already? lol

I guess you don’t have to yet but you can. Lol. I think I will choose option 2. The food is decent but I’ll get tired of it.

I wonder how bad community bathrooms really are…and what if I wake up in the middle of the night, need to use the restroom and loose my key! :O

I’ll probably chose option 1. I didn’t get a chance to try their food when I was there (because I visited during the summer). lol I know a lot of people complain about college food, but my parents rarely cook–most of my meals at home are in the form of frozen meals. I’m confident that Oxford’s food will be a marked improvement.

Oxford college of Emory should be getting extremely selective in the future because it is still an emory education…
and more ppl will find out about it

I think a lot more students will start to apply due to the transition experience. I come from a smaller area and wouldn’t be comfortable starting off in Atlanta–same story for a lot of kids around here. Practically no one around here had heard of Emory–much less its Oxford College–until they heard about it from me. Next year, several kids are thinking of applying, and I’m going to work with them to help them understand how Oxford/Emory’s philosophy, admissions, etc. is so much different than some random state school.

Yeah, I agree. I think the stats are going to eventually balance out for both Emory College and Oxford College. Matter of fact, I was just thinking about yesterday.

Also the price. It’s a lot cheaper (several thousand) than the main campus. I have a friend in my AP Chemistry class that got accepted to both main and Oxford and she chose Oxford or price and the smaller classes.

She didn’t get ANY financial aid though. They only gave her a $4,000 loan. That’s it. No grants–nada. Not even work study. Then again, her parents are rich and she drives like a 2011 Audi A6. At least I’ll know someone next year when I go off. :)

Sorry for poor grammar. My iPhones auto-correct sucks.

To be fair, colleges assess how much you can pay–not how much you’d like to pay. There was some girl who made a thread on this site… she applied ED… her family made >$300,000/year. She was absolutely APPALLED that she didn’t receive any need-based financial aid.

Lol. I have family who went/goes to Emory that I just learned about now that I’ve been accepted and they are working to increase my financial aid. Lol. One of my cousins (that I just learned about) went to Emory for undergrad and went to Yale Law afterwards.

Found my future roommate via facebook. I’d encourage everyone else to do the same. :)

is there any stat for the waitlist students for oxford?
