Hi, I’ve applied & been accepted into The Oxford Tradition this summer 2012. I was just wondering what it was like from a students point of view and where do most of the students come from? I’m from South Africa and I’m just too excited for the course. I’m majoring in Film Studies and minoring in Law & Society. Do you know anything about the courses? thanks so much!

Hey, I just saw that you got a scholarship to oxford Tradition, and I was just wondering about your application, and personal statement, in terms of what you wrote about? The criteria is really broad, and I’m just unsure about what they are looking for in an application, and obviously yours was successful! Thanks so much!

You people make Oxford in the summer very annoying, although I have nothing against you personally.

sounds interesting

!!!..

I went to Cambridge 2 years ago and it was the absolute best summer of my life.
@jessica I don’t think that it’s very selective if you can pay the full tuition. For those applying for financial aid, however, it will be a little more selective.
@rockprincess I am from a private school on the east coast and most kids my year (~30% if not more) were from private schools on the east coast, but there was also a large handful from the west coast. Don’t let this discourage you though! My best friends during the summer were from Italy, Austria, Germany (cute European guys ;)) and California! There was even a girl that went to my school at the camp who I didn’t talk to the entire summer haha. I still keep in touch with these people so the friendships you make there actually do last. I don’t know anything about the courses sorry- I majored in Biology and minored in Medical Science.
@Generalfield This might sound really basic but write about exactly what scholarship you are applying for. I applied for the science scholarship for Cambridge so for most of my application I wrote about my love for science and what I did outside of the classroom that pertained to science (volunteered at a hospital doing lab work for 2 years, also had a published paper).

For those applying for financial aid just keep in mind that even if you get your entire tuition covered, you still have to pay for air fare and living expenses, which let me tell you, are not cheap. I think I spent over 1500 USD (I hate exchange rates) on food, clothing, etc. at Cambridge. Also, if you do go to Cambridge, I really suggest majoring in Biology and minoring in Medical Science. I don’t know if it was my teachers that year but I literally had no homework at all. I only had a presentation for biology the last week that I had to do work for but that’s it. I thought I would have so much work considering how hefty those two courses sound. Regarding your social life there- it was very loose about certain things but not others at Cambridge and I went to Prep, so imagine what Tradition is like! Drinking is a definite no, especially in England where the age to buy alcohol at Sainsbury’s is 21. However, my Italian friend was seen smoking by a teacher once, and she was just told to put it away and not get seen by another teacher again. I know for a fact that the kids in Barcelona could basically do whatever they wanted and get away with it (drink, smoke, sneak out, go to bars, etc.)… In addition, you have a lot of downtime because you really don’t have that many classes every day, especially the weekend.

i really want to get in… any tips??

Aha, I
m applying for this too. I can
t afford it though, so fingers crossed for a scholarship! ;__;

Hello everybody! Will an alumni from The Oxford Tradition program please give me some advice as to what I should say in my personal statement in order to aid in my acceptance into the program. All the opportunities that this program has to offer me is astounding and I would really love to go here. Also, has anyone applied for the literature scholarship on here? Please and thank you!

Im applying to the oxford prep experience and im signing up for philosophy as my major and creative writing as my minor and i was wondering who has taken these classes and what theyre like! im super curious. Also just anything about the program! i feel like im rly not informed enough. Im totally nervous and just want to know all the little details like the weather, food, people, dances :), homework load, getting lost (lol), free time (can i go see 22 jump street when it comes out) and ANYTHING ELSE.

How much is tuition?

i mean if you get finacial aid

Little book owl i think its like $3000 with a partial scholarship. what are you applying to? Im applying to the oxford prep experience

Oh i was just thinking about it. So they only give partial scholarships? And yeah i was looking at the oxford prep too :)

I think they only give out partial for the prep and then they do full and partial for the tradition one. Did u apply yet? If u get ur application in by the 31st this month u get like $350 off or something. Im actually writing my personal statement now and i have no idea what to write :/

This is the best summer you will have your entire life and I can promise you the day you will have to leave will be the worst day! Have fun! It’s not extremely hard to get in.

I’m really confused when are applications accepted? Because being from Australia not many people go so there are a lot of question marks surrounding this…
