Wait, so once we sign up for the service is there a way we can check without having to receive a text or email alert (the system isnt saving our preferences)? Also the alerts preferences page lists knowing the day before. So if the package is coming tuesday we won’t know until tomorrow?

When would we get the rejection e-mails if we did not make it?

SurvivorFan - That has really varied in the past, but seems to get better every year in terms of completeness and speed. I would think you would hear within a week, based on the past. But this is very “unfirm”. Also I am referring to the DHS when I say this. The PTA doesn’t have enough history to really say at this point. Last year there seemed to be a few people that found out they got one a couple weeks after the first wave of positive news.

Just hang loose, and hopefully all will be clear by the end of this week.

So, do you think that if UPS doesn’t have anything on file, that it’s a definite indication?

Electric,
No, I just emailed Jeff Schiffman, the guy with the blog, and he said they were being SENT out this week. So maybe those two people who saw the ups thing are just early birds. The Paul Tulane award is on a “rolling basis” also so that could mean that they aren’t all sent out at once. There is still hope I’d say. I think if there is nothing in the mail by Saturday, that’s the definite indication

Okay, thats what i thought. I was getting pretty freaked out. Thanks!

Definitely do not freak out! As I mentioned, last year many PTA winners heard around now, but some not until mid-March

DejaLytle: Thanks for the update ! Based on what you wrote there is still hope for my daughter. Good luck to everyone else waiting for their golden ticket via UPS. I will try and follow your advice, fallenchemist. It’s tough because I have the free time to keep checking. My daughter signed up for a very rigorous course schedule her final term and is pretty busy with h/w and tests. I don’t think she is expecting to hear anything for a few weeks - lucky her.

I just had a call with a student working in admissions. The Paul Tulane awards will be sent out “all at once”. When I ask if they have been sent, she replied “any day now”, which to me indicates that the ups envelopes are still in the office.

Not to denigrate these hard working students in any way, but they don’t always have the full and correct info. I guess what I am trying to say is that no matter what we think we know, we won’t really know what is true until it all is over. Since it will mostly play out this week, I recommend patience rather than trying to ferret out info, but that’s just me. I know I am not in the anxious position many of you are, and even when I was these forums were not so developed as they are now, and there was no Paul Tulane Award and no Stamps Scholarship. So it was much easier to just wait for the DHS to be sent out. Well, maybe not easier, just fewer options of what could happen and when.

But take the long view, if you can. When the dust settles, whatever “it” is, it is. Then you will know the landscape more fully, for better or worse. Of course there might still be some unknown variables out there, such as need based FA packages yet to come, and/or some other schools’ decisions that haven’t come down yet. I know it is all kind of gut wrenching, but from those of us that are at the other end of this, trust me that the vast, vast majority of the time it all turns out with your child at a fine school and very happy. This is just one step in the process, albeit a step that is worth a few bucks, for sure.

@fallenchemist - My anxiety kind of fell away today after I treated myself to Starbucks and a mini shopping spree at Dick’s sporting goods. I just called to help add info to the forum, which apparently is conflicting with the popular information. It is very likely they are wrong, however. The woman who answers always refers to the students as “the interns”, which I think is kind of unique and quirky compared to some other experiences I’ve had with college admissions offices.

@Leicester - Love the shopping spree at Dick’s. No idea which info is right or wrong, quite possibly some mix of it all. Who knows. We kind of go through this every year lately, but I am not sure there is a better way for Tulane to do it, honestly. There is a lot to sort out, especially since some students apply for multiple scholarships. Like I said, it was easier when there was only the DHS, but of course it is way better to have the extra scholarships. So even if the process is a little messy, or at least anxiety producing, it is better than the alternative!

What do the other admissions offices call the students that work there? I never thought much about it.

@fallenchemist - Usually something like “student admissions reps”, or they go unnamed.
This if off topic, but I just want to thank you for all that you have done on this Tulane forum. You are an infinite source of knowledge!

FYI: package in question was a Deans Honor Scholarship.

@Leicester - Thanks very much. Not infinite, but I do my best.

@gsckmom - Wait. Are you saying your child got a DHS?

Yes. :)

Question for gsckmom, did your child apply for both?
And
CONGRATULATIONS

Yes, she did.

@gsckmom. LOL That’s a pretty quiet reaction to a wonderful piece of news. I also say congratulations. Brag a little. Celebrate.

Yeah I thought about throwing a cyber party for you but I didn’t know if you wanted a stranger popping imaginary champagne and throwing fictional confetti in the air.
Cool, I want to know when the PT applicants are notified because I’m going crazy.
