It sounds like not having internship/work experience in industry in college is becoming an increasingly prominent reason for employers to weed out applicants of full time positions.

I am graduating in December 2012 with a chem e degree, and I've never had an internship. I was planning to go to graduate school. But now, I'm on the fence between furthering my education in a Masters/PhD (probably MAsters) and finding a job right away. Ideally, I would like to find some work to do during the spring after my graduation to see what's out there and learn what I like. But that wouldn't work out very well since I won't be a student anymore, and therefore can't do any internships/co-ops.

My GPA is not bad (3.5). I've worked on research projects throughout college. For people who have experiences in the job market, how important is it to have already had an internship prior to entering the job market?
